Young Harris is a city in Towns Country, Georgia; it was named after Young Harris College (rather than the opposite), which was founded in 1886. The college was founded by a Methodist minister, Artemis Lester, and was supported by an agricultural farm attached to the college; students who couldn't afford the tuition were allowed to work on the farm to pay their way. In 1887, the struggling school received a donation from an Athens, Georgia judge, Young LG Harris, which allowed it to continue operating without the difficulties. A short while later, the school renamed itself after its benefactor and the town followed suit in 1895.

Book an RV in Towns County and you are prepared to explore the history and unique culture that is this part of Georgia. There are some other towns and cities that you should also visit. Hiawassee is thought to have been named after a Cherokee (or other) Native American princess, but this is a myth; the name is an anglicized version of “Ayuhwasi”, which means “Meadow”. Blairsville is the only part of the Appalachian Trail that passes through a man-made structure. Blue Ridge is Georgia's favorite mountain town and a chance to escape the heat. Cleveland native Xavier Roberts is the creator of the Cabbage Patch Kids dolls; Babyland General Hospital, located in Cleveland, is where the dolls are manufactured. Dahlonega is a tourist hotspot where visitors can still pan for gold wading through the river, or just wade in the river for its own sake. Your Young Harris travel trailer rental is your magical transportation to a part of Georgia State that many people don't know about.

Discover Young Harris

The Great Outdoors

Brasstown Bald is Georgia's highest peak at 4,784 feet, offering panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and neighboring states. It can be accessed by a steep paved trail or by a shuttle that will ferry passengers to the top; visitors have the option of riding the shuttle up and walking down, but shoes with good traction are recommended if you do this. Between the base and the peak, there is a gift shop and parking lot; the summit has a museum and observation tower.

Chattahoochee National Forest is a part of the Appalachian Trail, with historic sites and petroglyphs for visitors to see. It has campgrounds, picnic areas, and miles upon miles of trails where guests can hike, bike, or go horseback riding. Fishing and hunting are also allowed, but permits may be required.

Nottely Dam serves a variety of purposes, such as generating electricity and preventing flood damage, but it also provides recreational opportunities for swimming at its manmade beach and wildlife viewing. Park your Young Harris RV trailer rental nearby and follow up your outdoor excursions with coffee and a snack while taking in the scenery.
