Willamina is a unique little town in western Oregon with an interesting story behind its name. The town was named for the nearby Willamina Creek, which in turn was named for Willamina Williams, an Ohio woman who fell from her horse into the creek. Willamina Williams, along with countless other settlers, began arriving in Oregon during the mid-19th century, after undertaking a perilous journey on the Oregon Trail. Willamina thrived for many years as a mill town on the South Yamhill River, with gristmills, timber mills, and clay brick factories to keep the economy running smoothly.

When you search for an RV in Willamina, you will be able to treat yourself to some awe-inspiring natural beauty, an inviting atmosphere, and short drives to Oregon’s capital city, Salem, and Portland, its most well-known metro area.

The Great Outdoors

This beautiful little river town is a well-kept secret for most, smack dab in the middle of western Oregon. Like anywhere else in the state, there are a significant number of parks, recreation areas, and gorgeous landscapes in nearly every direction. Even the splendid Oregon coasts along the Pacific are within range when you rent an RV in Willamina, so the options are endless.

There are dozens of nearby parks and recreation areas dotting the oceanside, like Devil’s Lake State Recreation Area or Sand Lake Recreation Area. These natural areas by the beach are wonderful places to unload, relax, and get the most out of your Willamina RV rental vacation. Devil’s Lake State Recreation Area is located in the middle of Oceanlake, a town sandwiched between Devils Lake and the Pacific Ocean; you can rent kayaks and take part in exciting guided kayak tours on the lake, and enjoy mesmerizing sunsets over the lake and ocean. There are campsites you can make use of with your Willamina camper rental while staying at either recreation area, good news for those hoping to spend most of their time by the seaside. Sand Lake Recreation Area also has plenty of camping space and wide-open beaches that are perfect for off-roading, ATV riding, and other assorted recreation activities.

Bob Straub State Park is a gem of a natural area that also sits along the oceanside, full of spectacular sand dunes and pristine beaches. You can ride horses, photograph wildlife, have a picnic, go fishing, or simply lie on the beach and soak up the sun when you bring your Willamina motorhome rental for a few days of sunshine and fun at the park.

No trip to northwestern Oregon would be quite the same without a visit to Mount Hood National Forest, an enchanting stretch of wilderness that encompasses the mountain from which it takes its name. Mount Hood is a towering stratovolcano that is popular for long-distance trekkers, backpackers, and mountain climbing aficionados. This challenging terrain can be difficult for most, but the magical views of alpine lakes, meadows of wildflowers, and the surrounding area make it more than worth the effort. When you bring your Willamina RV rental to this outdoor paradise, you can also swim, hike, bike, and camp out in the glorious old-growth forests while you breathe in that fresh Oregon air.
