What began as a small development from adventurers looking to head out west, West Friendship, Maryland has developed into a sort of “paradise community” where secluded homes are nestled in between the rolling hills of central Maryland. Today, the descendants of the first settlers to the area still predominantly occupy West Friendship. Though the residents don’t work the farms as much anymore, and many commute into Baltimore or Washington D.C., there is still a quiet, rural feel to the town.

When you book an RV in Howard County, you are setting yourself up in a beautiful and central location. Surrounded by the countryside, a variety of natural parks and preserved lands, and within easy driving distance to both Baltimore and Washington D.C., there is no shortage of opportunity for your central Maryland adventure.

The Great Outdoors

Just a short drive to the east of town is Patapsco Valley State Park in Ellicott City. Nearing the outskirts of Baltimore, this pristine park feels worlds away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. Patapsco Valley is home to just over 16,000 acres of recreational land to explore. You can head out on over 200 miles of trails, enjoy some mountain biking, or even enjoy a leisurely canoe ride down the Patapsco River. You are sure to feel like you’re in your own little paradise as you explore this Mid-Atlantic oasis.

If you’d like to enjoy a day on the lake, the head north with the West Friendship motorhome rental to the Liberty Reservoir near Reisterstown. You can hike along the shores of the lake and enjoy scenic views or instead you can enjoy the reservoir a little more first-hand. If you enjoy fishing, you can test your luck and see if you can catch yourself a striped bass, bluegill, or largemouth bass. If you’d rather go out on the lake, and you have received a seasonal boaters’ permit, you can enjoy heading out on the waters and leave dry land behind.

A short drive south of West Friendship is Middle Patuxent Environmental Area in Columbia. If you’re looking for a quiet stroll, you can head out on the trails of this well-protected natural preserve. If you’re interested in seeing some wildlife, you can download the list of bird species from the Howard County Bird Club and see just how many you can find. The park isn’t a very heavily trafficked area, so you are sure to enjoy some peace and quiet as you wind through the trees and head out on the trails.
