Wedowee is a beautiful, peaceful village out in the middle of what feels like nowhere, with a pleasant atmosphere, and a slew of historic homes to look at. The Randolph County Courthouse is simple yet elegant, even if it isn’t crafted from marble or granite like some of the more ornate courthouses in the South. Downtown Wedowee is made up of a few small roads lined with locally owned businesses, restaurants, and old brick buildings.

If you yearn to see more memorable attractions, the small city of Talladega is not far from Wedowee, and well worth a visit. The Ritz Theatre is one of the town’s most beloved landmarks, built back in 1936. This Art Deco-style theater is run by a non-profit tasked with preserving the landmark while ensuring that the public can still enjoy plays, movie screenings, and other live events. While it isn’t a conventional movie theater, there are frequent film screenings inside, and lots of Broadway-style musicals and plays put on for the enjoyment of the general public.

Talladega is perhaps most well-known for the Talladega Superspeedway, a real treat for fans of NASCAR or racing in general. This massive structure can fit around 200,000 people, and race days are all in all a fantastic time with tailgating, dancing, grilling, and a party-like atmosphere. Additionally, there are lots of racing experiences and driving schools in town for people who want to feel what it is like to drive a stock car, as well as the International Motorsports Hall of Fame, where you can learn about the evolution of NASCAR and pro racing, or see famous cars from Hall of Fame drivers.
