The Great Outdoors

One of the biggest draws to the area is, of course, the Mississippi River. There are a number of parks and open spaces all along the river, but one of the largest and closest is the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge. For wildlife viewing, there are pull-offs for your RV rental and a number of canoe and bike trails. Many people also enjoy viewing the beauty of the park from the blufftop overlooks.

Although located in town, Waukon City park is huge, covering 64 acres of open parkland. In the park, you will find walking trails, picnic shelters, camping facilities, and more, all of which help to make the park a great place for the whole family to enjoy. Another attraction in the park is Indian Springs Pond, where visitors can try their hand at fishing or just sit and relax on the sandy beach. For the kids, there is a fun playground, and for sports enthusiasts, the volleyball courts, softball field, and horseshoe pit will not disappoint, plus, you won’t have to stray far from your Waukon travel trailer rental.

Yellow River State Forest is one of Iowa’s major state forests and covers over 8000 acres. It is one of the best places to explore some of Iowa’s best hiking trails. Recreational activities are of abundance here, with fishing, hunting and over 45 miles of hiking trails, as well as cross-country skiing and snowmobiling in the winter months.

RV Parks

Lil’ Bit of Country RV Park is located just out of town at the edge of Strawberry Point. The incredible landscape here is thanks to the flatlands of Iowa meeting the Mississippi River. Although small in size with only 16 full hookup campsites, this park is well sought after. The park provides WiFi, the option of 30 or 50 amp service, sewer facilities, picnic tables, and fire circles. Pets are welcome on a leash, so they can enjoy the many hiking and wildlife watching opportunities with you in your best rental RV from Waukon. Nearby attractions include the Mississippi River itself, Joy Springs Country Park and Backbone State Park.

Another nearby option is Skip-a-Way resort and campground. This campground is big on providing a huge number of entertainment options for everyone such as Quarry Lodge, which is a full service restaurant, bar, games room and general store, mini golf, beach with sectioned off swimming area, playgrounds, splash pad, boating and boat rental and a ton of books and games for those rainy days.

Located along the picturesque bluffs of Yellow River is a beautiful campground to park up your travel trailer rental from Waukon. Throughout the year there are seasonal events to enjoy, but the campground is permanently home to modern and clean amenities such as showers, laundry, dump stations and more.
