Named after the capital of Poland (which was the homeland of Thaddeus Kosciusko), Warsaw, Indiana is an hour's drive from Fort Wayne and is the county seat of Kosciusko County. It was first settled by Europeans around 1834 and flourished with the arrival of the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne and Chicago Railway in 1854.

Warsaw centers around an attractive historic district with a fortress-like jail and Gothic-inspired courthouse while being on the doorstep of scenic lakes and recreational parks. With its proximity to family-friendly RV campgrounds, fishing destinations, and hiking trails, it’s the perfect place to rent an RV while exploring northern Indiana.

Discover Warsaw

The Great Outdoors

Book an RV rental in Warsaw and head to the Center Lake Wetland Conservation Area, which sprawls on the northern edge of the city. It’s a hub for recreation in Warsaw, with walking trails and plenty of opportunities to go canoeing and kayaking. Stroll through the adjacent Warsaw Biblical Gardens or take advantage of the sporting facilities in the Municipal Park.

A short drive south of Warsaw takes you to Winona Lake and its scenic trails, which are accessible to both hikers and mountain bikers. Tackle the jumps and technical challenges along the single-track mountain biking trail or enjoy the 7.2-mile-long loop walking trail that’s dog-friendly. There are numerous streams where your four-legged friends can swim, and sightings of deer, squirrels, and other wildlife are not uncommon.

Alternatively, head to the Chapman Lakes, which comprise Big Chapman Lake to the north and Little Chapman Lake to the south, with a dual-lane channel connecting the two. Big Chapman Lake is a popular water skiing and power boating destination while Little Chapman Lake is ideally explored by kayaks and canoes. The area also encompasses more than 260 acres of wetlands that attract numerous migratory and resident bird species.

RV Parks

Pick up your travel trailer rental in Warsaw and pull into one of the 47 level RV sites at the Pike Lake Campground, which offers both 30 and 50-amp services. There’s a boat ramp and public beach that guests are welcome to use, as well as a children’s playground and fish cleaning station.

Alternatively, drive west to the Hoffman Lake Campground, which is another destination for RVers who are keen on fishing. There’s a beach swimming area, as well as a swimming pool and splash pad, not to mention a children’s playground, basketball court, mini-golf course, and gaming room.

A little farther out is the Harper Lake Campground, which lies on the edge of a chain of 10 lakes near the immense Lake Wawasee. It offers just over 120 RV sites across 30 acres, with a sandy swimming beach, children’s playground, and pontoon and boat rentals available.

Exploring the City

Park your RV rental near Warsaw and explore the city on foot, beginning at the Warsaw Courthouse Square Historic District. Now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it includes 13 commercial and governmental buildings that center around the city’s architecturally significant courthouse. Admire the nearby Kosciusko County Jail that was designed in a Gothic Revival style by George O. Garnsey and the late-19th-century Opera House, as well as the Widaman-McDonald Building that originally housed the 500-seat Centennial Theatre.

If you’re interested in the history of the region, stop in at the Kosciusko County Jail Museum where old artifacts and uniforms related to its operation are displayed. The Historical Society also operates a genealogy library where you can trace your roots to Warsaw, with a well-lit research room and volunteers who are ready to assist. Also of note is the Chinworth Bridge that dates to 1897 when it was built by the Bellefontaine Bridge and Iron Company of Ohio, with it standing as the last remaining Pratt through truss bridge in the county.

If you’re traveling with kids, don’t miss a visit to the Winona Lake Limitless Park & K21 Splash Pad. This play area is designed to be universally accessible, with a solid surface and ramps to help kids with mobility or balance issues access the equipment. It also features sensory play equipment such as musical boards and balance beams that are designed for kids of all ages and abilities.

Warsaw is home to numerous supermarkets where you can pick up grocery supplies, as well as a handful of fast food eateries and restaurants for dining out. There are also gas stations if you need to fill up your camper rental in Warsaw.

Whether you’re visiting Kosciusko County for its historic buildings or recreational lakes, book an RV in Warsaw and start exploring.
