As is the case with most of the towns in and around Boulder County, Ward was once a flourishing mining settlement back when gold and other precious ores were discovered in Colorado’s Front Range. In fact, Ward was one of the most prosperous towns in the whole state during the Gold Rush due to copious amounts of gold, silver, and other precious metals near the Left-Hand Canyon by Ward.

Ward was originally named for Calvin Ward, a man who prospected a claim up in the mountains back in the mid-1800s. Millions of ounces of gold were pulled from the rich veins nearby over the course of the next few decades until the minerals were depleted leaving the town mostly deserted for years. The arrival of the Peak-to-Peak Highway in the 1930s helped revive the town and usher it into a thriving vacation spot up in the mountains. Between the stunning Rocky Mountains and the world-class city of Denver, the town of Ward is blessed with a perfect set of circumstances making it an ideal place to rent an RV.

Discover Ward

Explore the Outdoors

It’s impossible to see all the beauty in Colorado in one lifetime, let alone one trip, so when you book an RV in Ward, there is an overwhelming number of forests and parks to visit. Brainard Lake Recreation Area is the closest you’ll find to the small town and is a fine place to camp with your Ward RV rental by owner. You can visit this popular park in winter or summer, and utilize the convenient hiking trails that circle the lake for walking, bicycling, snowshoeing, or cross-country skiing. Hunting is allowed in season at the recreation area along with skeet shooting and fishing.

If you like gorgeous hiking through rocky canyons to sublime summits overlooking the Front Range, Golden Gate Canyon State Park is another possible destination for you to head to with your Ward camper rental. This beloved state park is one of the most visited nature destinations for folks living in the Denver metropolitan area along with Brainard Lake Recreation Area. Camping between the groves of aspen trees is a delightful way to get full use out of your Ward motorhome rental while at the park, and hiking through the park looking for wildlife is wonderful.

Lake Granby is a fantastic summertime recreation spot high up in the mountains. This gorgeous alpine lake happens to be one of the largest bodies of water in the Centennial State, with 40 miles of coastline to enjoy during your stay. Hiking, biking, boating, swimming, and fishing are the main staples at the mountain recreation area, and there are some excellent lakefront campgrounds that can accommodate your Ward travel trailer rental.

No trip to Boulder County would be quite as memorable without at least a day’s visit to Rocky Mountain National Park. This outdoors paradise is one of the most visited parks in the entire country, with four and a half million guests each year. Heavenly hikes through meadows of wildflowers in the shadow of the towering snowcapped Rockies are a divine way to leave your stress behind and fully soak in the scenery of Colorado. Snowshoeing and cross-country skiing are great alternatives to hiking in wintertime when the park is coated with newly fallen snow.

RV Parks to Visit

Those who choose to rent an RV in Colorado can rest assured that the state is one of the easiest places in the country to go camping.
