In the mystifying foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains lies the small town of Walhalla, South Carolina. This peaceful mountain enclave was first founded by Scottish, Irish, and German immigrant farmers in the 19th century. Walhalla is mostly known for its stunning scenery amidst the Blue Ridge Mountains, with breathtaking views in nearly every direction. Those who book an RV in Walhalla in October can take part in the massive German Oktoberfest cultural celebration held in town.

Greenville is about an hour's drive away, providing a nice alternative to the attractions in Walhalla, and the city of Atlanta, Georgia is only a two-hour drive to the southwest should you feel the urge to see the big city.

Discover Walhalla

Explore the Outdoors

The western part of South Carolina has vast, uninterrupted stretches of wilderness, one of the main reasons why places like Walhalla have become popular vacation destinations to rent an RV. There are loads of state parks close to Walhalla, so you and your Walhalla camper rental have your work cut out for you if the plan is to spend most of your vacation visiting various parks and forests.

Oconee State Park is the closest to Walhalla. There are a few lakes and ponds you where you can swim, fish, or explore by boat, as well as a network of hiking trails. The well-known Palmetto Trail, a 400-mile trail cutting through the forests of South Carolina, starts in the park, making it a long-distance trekker’s paradise.

Keowee Toxaway State Park can be found to the north and is another solid option for outdoor recreation fun. Hiking, fishing, mountain biking, boating, and swimming are all part of the adventure when you bring your Walhalla RV rental for some fun in the sun. There is a campground for you to use during your visit, and a fascinating museum delving into the complex history of the indigenous peoples of South Carolina and their, at times, contemptuous relationship with the foreign settlers.

Devil’s Fork State Park is yet another fabulous option for when you can’t get enough of South Carolina’s gorgeous scenery. The park is found on the shores of Lake Jocassee, a picturesque body of water known for refreshing swimming holes, great fishing, and lots of open space for boating, canoeing, or kayaking. Even scuba diving has become a popular activity in the lake due to the old abandoned town ruins on the lake floor.

If you want to visit one of the most popular parks in the entire country, Great Smoky Mountains National Park is less than a two-hour drive north in your motorhome rental from Walhalla. This stunning collection of ecosystems attracts millions of people each year, making it more visited than world-famous attractions like Grand Canyon National Park and Yosemite National Park. The observation tower hovering over Clingmans Dome is one of the best places to see the park, offering marvelous views and jaw-dropping sunsets. There are over 10,000 species of wildlife in the park, and just about every outdoor activity you can imagine.
