Union City sits on Indiana’s eastern border with Ohio, about halfway down the state from the Great Lakes. It’s often referred to as the “Hub City” as it was the center of a number of midwestern rail lines connecting cities like St. Louis, Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Chicago. With the advent of the Interstate Highway system, its importance to the transportation sector has been considerably reduced. It’s located nearly a half hour’s drive to the north of Interstate 70, which connects Dayton, Ohio to Indianapolis, Indiana.

When you book an RV in Union City, you’ll have access to the best attractions in both states. A boom in the area has led to innovative restaurants and shops, and there are numerous outdoor destinations within reasonable driving distance of the city.

Discover Union City

The Great Outdoors

Indiana is packed with opportunities for outdoor activities. When you rent an RV here, you’ll have access to great hiking, exquisite lakes, and even a beach or two.

Indiana Dunes National Park is one of America’s newest national parks and offers one of the best beach experiences in the Midwest. The park is about three and a half hours’ drive to the northwest, making it an excellent day trip or overnighter when you get a motorhome rental in Union City.

If you’re hoping to do some angling when you come to Union City, Lake Loramie State Park in Ohio is one of the best places for it. There are even boat and bike rentals available for use on the lake and trails surrounding it. Just make sure you have the proper fishing license before making your first cast.

For a truly wild hiking experience, you’ll need to drive about three hours south to Hoosier National Forest. Here you’ll find dozens of lengthy hiking trails and loads of campsites for overnight adventures. Bring a flashlight too-there are a number of great caves to explore.

RV Parks

The Midwest is an RV traveler’s paradise with tons of great parks to camp in and easy access to them on interstates and federal highways. Wildcat Woods Campground is one of the nearest places to camp with your RV rental from Union City. Their sites have electrical hookups and a pond for swimming or fishing. The park is about 15 minutes’ drive from Union City, just over the border in Ohio.

Natural Springs Resort sits just south of Union City and a little way off Interstate 70. Known for its picturesque layout, with sites separated by tranquil streams and ponds, it also has full hookups for your Union City RV rental. They even have kayak and pedal boat rentals if you want to get out on the water.

If you’d prefer a more rural location, head north to Fox Lake Campground near the town of Portland. This is a very laid-back campground with full hookups, showers, and a small camp store for picking up the essentials. Traffic and noise won’t be a problem here, making this an ideal location for those wanting some peace and quiet on their RV rental adventure.

The closest Walmart to Union City is in the town of Muncie, about 45 minutes’ drive to the west. With the manager’s permission, you may be able to stay here for a few nights, though there won’t be any amenities.

Exploring the City

There aren’t too many restaurants to dine in or shops to browse in Union City itself, so consider it more of a basecamp for your eastern Indiana adventure. The closest town with tourist attractions is Winchester, about 15 minutes’ drive away. Its historic shopping and dining district is well worth a visit when you choose a camper rental in Union City. The district is centered on the town’s courthouse and has a variety of restaurants and antique shops while also being a popular festival location and the home of its weekly farmers market.

If you’re a fan of motorsports, you will love getting a travel trailer rental in Union City. There are a number of racetracks in nearby towns including Eldora Speedway in New Weston (a favorite of NASCAR driver Tony Stewart and sometimes referred to as the World’s Greatest Dirt Track), Winchester Speedway, Muncie Dragway, and of course, the legendary Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home of the Indy 500 and the highest-capacity sports venue in the world. If you rent an RV around Memorial Day or Labor Day, you’ll definitely want to watch the Indy 500 or Brickyard 400.

Prefer the smell of freshly baked cookies to burning rubber? Pop over to Greenville to enjoy the Kitchenaide Retail Experience. The town is the headquarters of the Kitchenaide brand of mixers and home appliances, and you can see their entire line of products, past and present, at their showroom there. They even have cooking demos where you can learn how to whip up some great new recipes with your mixer.
