Originally called Sackman, Tracyton was founded in early 1880 as a logging town, though there are records that there were people in the area as early as the 1850s. The Sackman family, who was one of the major logging enterprises in the area, would drag their entire camp from site to site by floating the structure on the waterfront.

The largest town is Seattle, which is about 20 miles across the Puget Sound. The ferry transit time varies depending on the weather; it typically takes about 40-50 minutes, including the time to load vehicles onto a ferry. When you rent a motorhome in Tracyton, head over to the world-famous Olympic National Park. Distance to the park varies depending on what section of the park you wish to visit. Expect travel distances of 40 miles to well over 100 miles. In contrast, visiting the closest Tracyton beach, which faces the Dyes Inlet, is only minutes away. Launch your boat at the public docks here. If you’d rather watch the ferry boat go by, visit the Bachmann Park in Bremerton, have a nice picnic and stretch your legs while you take in the remarkable scenery.

The Great Outdoors

Renting a motorhome in Tracyton will open you up to a world of outdoor adventure throughout the area. The Kitsap Peninsula offers dozens of public parks, miles of trails, beaches, and open spaces. And bonus: a majority are dog-friendly. With 371 miles of waterfront, Kitsap Peninsula was officially designated as part of the National Water Trails system.

Encompassing over 1,400 square miles of land, the Olympic National Park has three distinct ecosystems for adventurers to explore: subalpine forest, temperate forest (rainforest), and the Pacific shore/ocean. The Olympic is both an international biosphere reserve and a World Heritage site. The park is also a Dark Sky Park, and during the summer months (which are typically drier) you’ll be able to see not only the Milky Way but also a number of other galaxies and nebulae. The Master Observer Program at Hurricane Ridge lends out telescopes for your viewing pleasure in summers.

The nearby Hood Canal has thousands of species of fish, marine mammals, clams, and mussels. It’s a fisherman’s dream spot.

RV Parks

Unfortunately, due to the covenants in place, none of the parks in Kitsap County allow overnight parking or camping. You’ll have to venture out of the area a bit to find a place to park your RV rental for a few days.

Poulsbo, WA, provides a few options that may work for your needs. The Eagle Tree RV Park, for example, has 30/50 amps for your RV, laundry facilities, a community kitchen, restrooms and showers, and free wifi and cable. For a more rustic option, check the Kitsap Memorial State Park, which has an impressive view and a direct access to the shoreline for fishing, clamming, and crabbing.

Alternatively, the dog-friendly Scenic Beach State Park in Seabeck, WA, was named the “Best Romantic Spot” by the locals. The Tahuya Adventure Resort near Belfair is a longer drive, about 18 miles away, but offers a number of amenities like ATV and horse rentals, RV hookups, and easy access to 25,000 acres of state forest.

Sometimes you’ll need to to make an unplanned overnight stop in your Tracyton camper rental. There is a Walmart in Tracyton, just off the highway 303, and camping may be allowed there. Just check with the manager before parking for the night.

Exploring the City

Farming is a way of life for a lot of the area. During your vacation, you may support the local farmers through agri-tourism. In addition to frequenting the farmer markets in Kitsap County (typically on Saturdays), visit the local petting farms like the Sawdust Hill Alpaca Farm.

For a different cup of tea, visit Sound Dive Center, which is one of the oldest SCUBA diving facility in the Pacific Northwest. Established in the late 1950s, the Center provides lessons in addition to charter boats to interesting dive spots like reefs, sunken barges, and wrecks.

There are tours of the Kitsap region, both by land and by sea, that offer something for people of all ages. Join either, and learn about the local history, attractions, and landmarks, while enjoying the views of the mountains and city skyline. If you join a boat tour, keep a sharp eye out - you might spot orca whales and humpback whales, which have been known to venture into the Puget Sound on occasion.

Only Seattle has a decent nightlife scene? Think again! There are art galleries, casinos, live music, theaters, and concerts a-plenty in this nifty little town. The local microbreweries and wineries are a great way to explore boutique drinks and find up-and-coming drinks.

If a little bit of rain doesn't bother you, consider a travel trailer rental in Tracyton. Enjoy the festivities and cuisine, watch a sunset, and take in the beautiful landscape. Grab a luxury motorhome rental from Tracyton, WA and set out to explore the Evergreen State!
