The Great Outdoors

Now we know what you’re thinking, Texas is all sand, desert, and tumbleweeds. But, you couldn’t be more wrong (in a good way)! With several natural parks close by, there’s plenty forest romping and swim hole diving to go around. Blue Hole Regional Park and Jacob’s Well Natural Area hold a special place in the hearts of Wimberley residents and possibly yours too. Both are easily accessible with your RV rental.

The historic Blue Hole was under threat of residential development until the city stepped in to purchase and preserve the 126-acre plot. While development and conservation plans are still underway, visitors to the park can hike, enjoy a picnic, or swim during designated hours. The blue-green water lined and shaded with aged trees will leave a mental postcard.

More known for the incredible natural phenomena that is Jacob’s Well, Jacob’s Well Natural Area is an 81.5-acre scenic expanse perfect for birding and photography. Guests can hike or take advantage of the picnic areas. The star attraction, however, is Jacob’s Well, an artesian spring that releases gallons of water per day that stays at a constant 68 degrees Fahrenheit. The 12-foot diameter mouth of the spring is popular for swimming and jumping. Beneath the surface is a 30-foot drop before the spring branches off into various caves even further down—a truly remarkable sight indeed.

Cruise on down to Austin in your Driftwood travel trailer to learn about flowers and native plants to the area. The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, affiliated with the University of Texas, is a one stop botanical shop. With a mission to raise awareness to the importance of native plant conservation, Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is sure to excite all five senses. There are meticulously maintained gardens and an Arboretum filled to the brim with live plants, exhibits, and information. Check online for information on programs and educational experiences.
