“The Heart of Dixie” lives up to its location and name by being an incredibly outdoors enthusiastic state. There is no shortage of recreational activities you can find or try outside, and the locals definitely enjoy being closer to nature.

Aside from the Talisi Riverwalk, there is not a whole lot of stuff to do within the city limits of Tallassee. The Talisi Riverwalk is located along the Tallapoosa River and has a laid-back nature trail feel that is quiet and peaceful. Both the Double Bridges Park and the Wind Creek State Park border Lake Martin and provide you with ample space and time to cool off in the soothing waters. Chimney Rock Island, in the middle of the lake, is a fun place to boat to and swim around as well.

While the state has no national parks to speak of, there are four glorious national forests that deserve mention, all equally suitable for visiting in your Tallassee camper rental. Bankhead National Forest is known as the “land of a thousand waterfalls” and is known for its many petroglyphs, prehistoric cave drawings, and primitive shelters from thousands of years ago. You can take a trip to Tuskegee National Forest when you rent an RV in Tallassee, and go mountain biking in the park’s many trails. Talladega National Forest is the largest in the state and encapsulates the southern terminus of the Appalachian Mountains. Taking your Tallassee motorhome rental is ideal because there are about 400,000 acres of pristine wilderness to enjoy on your vacation.

Tallassee is a small town and mostly keeps to itself, so tourist attractions can be hard to come by. Fortunately, the surrounding towns have many fascinating museums, landmarks, and interesting sights to see, so renting an RV in Tallassee is just as exciting as renting in a big city.

Tallassee history is definitely intertwined with the textile industry, and many mills thrived for over a hundred years on the banks of the Tallapoosa River. The Tallapoosa Cotton Mills have been abandoned since 2006, but until then were the longest continually run mills in the country. The ruins still stand and are a great place to have a photoshoot or see the gentle reclamation of the land by Mother Nature. Tallassee, strangely enough, was chosen to house the armory for the Confederacy during the Civil War after troops were withdrawn from Richmond, Virginia. The armory building still stands and remains the only surviving Confederate armory from the war.

In nearby Tuskegee, you can visit the George Washington Carver Museum, housed at the Tuskegee Institute National Historic Site. The museum celebrates the life of Mr. Carver, the son of a slave who, despite his disadvantages, rose up to become a brilliant inventor and contributor to advances in agriculture and science.

Don’t worry. RV parks and campgrounds are quite prevalent in the area and in the state as a whole. Tallassee has a Walmart Supercenter as well so you can park there overnight while utilizing the store’s wide selection of food and camping supplies.

Whispering Springs Campground is a friendly place to hitch up your Tallassee rental camper for the night and have a nice campfire. The nearby Lake Martin is all you need in the summertime to beat the heat.

University Station RV Resort & Event Venue is a great little gem near Auburn, Alabama that has lots of fun things to do. Parking here is convenient for people wanting to see an Auburn University football game, or for people wanting to see some live music or events near the park, like the Bluegrass Festival, held each year on Memorial Day.

Leisure Isle RV Park has all the usual amenities as well as a convenient dock located on the Tallapoosa River for you to use when fishing or boating.
