Named for its rocky terrain at the site of its first founding, Stony Ridge, Ohio is tiny community south of Toledo, just outside of the metropolitan area. The town was platted back in 1872, although the Stony Ridge post office has been in use since 1837.

Stony Ridge is part of the larger Troy Township, home to a few other communities like Luckey and Lemoyne. Stony Ridge is quite small both physically, and in terms of population, so when you rent an RV there, you shouldn’t expect a buzzing city center with shops and restaurants galore. What you can expect, however, when you decide to book an RV in Stony Ridge, is a relaxing, inviting atmosphere and a lovely, agricultural community teeming with pleasant scenery. Both Cleveland and Sandusky are quite easy to reach with your rental RV, and Interstate 280 practically cuts through the small town ensuring ease of access to many of Ohio’s other big cities. In Stony Ridge, neither a big city nor scenic park is ever far away, making it an ideal spot to plan your next vacation.

Discover Stony Ridge

The Great Outdoors

Stony Ridge might not be situated in the most exciting part of Ohio, but a short drive in nearly any direction will yield a number of incredible parks and recreation areas where you can take your Stony Ridge camper rental. Maumee Bay State Park and Cedar Point National Wildlife Refuge are two conjoined natural areas to the north along the shores of Lake Erie, brimming with possibility and potential when you rent an RV and set off on a road trip. Maumee Bay State Park is both an upscale resort and a natural rustic camping park, with something for everyone. Swimming in Lake Erie is a fantastic idea during the sweltering summertime, and gentle breezes roll off the lake to help you stay cool too. Cedar Point National Wildlife Refuge was once a shooting club for gun aficionados but was donated in 1964 for the preservation of local wildlife. Much of the reserve is closed to the public, but there are tons of awesome fishing spots to use and swamps where you can observe migratory birds.

If you drive east to the Marblehead Peninsula north of Sandusky, you will find yourself in the famous “Vacationland” region of Ohio, known for its epic recreation and vacation opportunities. East Harbor State Park is chief among the nature parks on the peninsula, with tranquil beaches along the lake, marinas, wetlands, and camping areas for your Stony Ridge RV rental to park. Fishing, swimming, hiking, hunting, and disc golfing are all great ways to pass the time at this lakefront paradise.

Haven’t seen enough of Lake Erie yet? William C. Sterling State Park can be found to the north just over the state line in Michigan, with human-made lagoons, sandy beaches along the great lake, a public boat launch, and hundreds of camping sites to choose from when you rent an RV and need a place to stay the night. Additionally, there are six miles of hiking and biking trails flowing through the park, enabling you to get around with ease.

RV Parks

Finding a pleasant park to stay at when you rent an RV in Stony Ridge is quite an easy task, so don’t lose any sleep over it. Toledo East/Stony Ridge KOA is one of the places to consider parking the Stony Ridge RV rental for a short stay. There is a mini-golf course, and also a swimming pool and a dog park among other things at this camping resort.

Wild Wings Campground is found on the edges of Lake Erie, with nearly 400 spacious, private campsites. There are hundreds of slip spaces and docks at the park’s marina, so boat owners can easily set out on fishing trips or water-skiing excursions.

Maumee Bay State Park also has a campground with quite a few amenities. The sandy beaches and sublime views alone are reason enough to consider spending a few nights at this state park.

City Sightseeing

What Stony Ridge lacks in attractions and businesses, Toledo surely makes up for in spades. The National Museum of the Great Lakes, for instance, is a dream for those who enjoy learning about navigation, nautical life, and history. There are six different exhibits recounting different aspects of the Great Lakes shipping and nautical history, a real-life decommissioned ship you can tour, and an outdoor maritime park.

The Toledo Museum of Art is one of the best of its kind in the entire nation. Artists like Calder and Renoir are featured in this spectacular institution, and a wide variety of art adorn the walls. Prehistoric art, impressionist masterpieces, epic sculptures, and glass-blown treasures are some of the things you’ll see when you tour the Toledo Museum of Art with a knowledgeable guide.

If you are traveling with your kids, you might find them begging you to bring them to the Toledo Zoo, a fantastic place to spend the day for adults and children alike. There are over 500 species of animals in the park and an underwater viewing area where guests may observe hippopotamuses playing with one another.
