Originally founded as Centerville in 1866, the city changed its name to Stanwood in 1877 at the behest of its first postmaster, Daniel O. Pearson. Though Stanwood is a small town, there’s plenty of things to see and do here. The town, in addition to other notable events, hosts an annual scavenger hunt in which over ten thousand people participate. The closest largest town is Mt. Vernon, about 20 miles to the north. Alternatively, Everett, WA, is 25 miles to the south, and Seattle is 60 miles away.
