Spring Branch, located in Comal County, Texas, is part of the San Antonio-New Braunfels metropolitan area. It is 71 miles south of Austin and 36 Miles north of San Antonio near the Guadalupe River. It was founded in 1815 by German settlers and was incorporated as a town in 2015. This new little town is home to only about 250 people who keep the city from being annexed by the nearby city of New Braunfels. This town is very unique in its ways, and that’s why it should be on your list of places to visit with a rental RV!

The Great Outdoors

RV rental is the perfect way to enjoy the many attractions near Spring Branch. The major outdoor attraction is the Guadalupe River State Park which offers canoeing, hiking, horseback riding, and fishing along 4 scenic miles of river. Honey Creek State Natural Area offers guided hikes with information about the local geology, animal life, and history of the area.

New Braunfels is nearby and offers Landa Park and Canyon Lake. Camp Whitewater is a beautiful recreational facility on the Guadalupe River. You can splash around at Schlitterbahn Waterpark on a hot day or go tubing at Landa Falls Park on the Comal River then catch a movie at the Stars and Stripes Drive-In Theater after dark. Dry Comal Creek Vineyards offers local wines to sample. Prince Solms Park offers tennis courts, disc golf, basketball courts, and floating on the Comal River. McKenna Children’s Museum offers hands-on learning exhibits for the younger crowd who may also enjoy the Animal World & Snake Farm Zoo. The Tube Chute is a water slide built into the dam on the Comal River. Bulverde Community Park offers a splash pad and playground equipment that kids love.

Natural Bridge Caverns and the Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch in nearby San Antonio are popular destinations. Bat Conservation International’s Bracken Bat Cave in Garden Ridge is a spectacular educational experience. The Medina River Natural Area is a popular place for hiking and biking. Fishermen like to try their luck at Braunig Lake and Calaveras Lake. Eisenhower Park and the Friedrich Wilderness are known for featuring native plants and terrain typical of the Texas hill country.

If you wander northward to Austin, you can visit the Lady Bird Hike and Bike Trail, Barton Springs Pool, or Hippie Hollow (clothing optional!). You can go boating on Lady Bird Lake, visit the Wild Basin Preserve, or the Austin Nature and Science Center.

The Faust Street bridge is a historically significant pedestrian bridge and a wonderful place for a quiet break. Train lovers should not miss the RailRoad Museum. Gruene Historic District is a former cotton producing town that is now part of New Braunfels and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

History buffs may also want to visit the Alamo in San Antonio as well as the Mission San Jose and San Fernando de Bexar Cathedral. The Riverwalk is a great venue for shopping and dining as well as leisurely boat tours. The Doseum and Morgan’s Wonderland are great for kids. You can sample local wines at and visit the San Antonio Zoo to see the largest collection of birds in the world, take a train tour, and ride a carousel. Seaworld and Morgan’s Wonderland are family friendly theme parks that you don’t want to miss while you’re in the area.

Austin is the capital of Texas and offers many options for experiencing true Texas culture. Multiple sightseeing tours are available for both traditional and non-traditional methods of transportation; buses, boats, bikes, walking, or Segways. You can tour the Capitol Building and the LBJ Presidential Library. Austin City Limits features live music and is the home of the television show of the same name. You can learn to two-step at The Broken Spoke and check out some of the best Mexican food and barbecue you will ever taste!
