Although it was once merely a crossroads between Maryville, Sevierville, and the city of Knoxville, Seymour is now an incredible community of its own. The area was originally known as Trundles Crossroads, but would later be named for Charles Seymour, the railway engineers responsible for bringing the railway through Seymour in 1909. Despite many attempts and votes to incorporate, Seymour has remained unincorporated for its entire history.

The primary reason most people enjoy visiting this delightful mountain town is its proximity to the exciting city of Knoxville, as well as several area attractions like the resort town of Pigeon Forge, and Dollywood theme park located up in the Great Smoky Mountains. The town slogan is “Gorgeous Views, Great People”, and this will ring especially true when you book an RV in Seymour, Tennessee.

Discover Seymour

Explore the Outdoors

It is difficult to not get excited about the limitless expanses of magnificent wilderness that you’ll see when you rent an RV in Seymour. The town sits on the cusp of the Great Smoky Mountains, nestled snugly in the foothills. Most people that visit Seymour do so for its nearly immediate access to the forests and mountains beyond the city limits.

Seven Islands State Birding Park is a fabulous place to observe over 200 species of birds in their natural habitat. This exciting preserve is well-known throughout the state and region for the beautiful, exotic birds that call it home. Chuck Swan State Forest can be found to the north of Knoxville on Norris Lake, directly across the water from Big Ridge State Park. You and your Seymour RV rental will be right at home camping at Big Ridge State Park, which contains a campground, some athletic fields, and a sandy beach coupled with a popular swimming area. There is even a Bluegrass Festival held the third week of August each year at Big Ridge State Park. Norris Dam State Park is also located on Norris Lake and is definitely worth a visit when you rent a motorhome in Seymour. Norris Dam State Park is where the Clinch River is dammed to create the massive Norris Lake that remains a popular summertime recreation destination. This old state park is full of historic log structures and gorgeous hiking trails.

Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area sits on the Kentucky-Tennessee state line adjacent to Daniel Boone National Forest, both of which are beautiful places to take the Seymore camper rental. The area is known for its incredible geological features like hidden limestone caves and massive rocky arches.

Cherokee National Forest can be reached by driving your Seymour RV rental northeast towards Johnson City; two separate sections and 11 wilderness areas can be found and explored in this incredible forest in both North Carolina and Tennessee. Nantahala National Forest is another gem with extraordinary nature hikes and jaw-dropping waterfalls cascading over towering rocky cliffs. Cullasaja Falls is the most iconic waterfall in the park and the source of many photos.

It would be crazy to not mention Great Smoky Mountains National Park as it is just 30 miles from town. The beloved national park is one of the most popular in the country attracting millions of people per year, sometimes almost double what Grand Canyon National Park brings in. Hiking up Mount LeConte, observing the majestic fall foliage from atop the observation deck, or visiting one of the many historic districts and old log structures that were built ages ago, are all fine options when you stay at Great Smoky Mountains National Park in your Seymour travel trailer rental.

City Sightseeing

Seymour doesn’t have many attractions worth noting, as most people who visit for vacation do so to see the Great Smoky Mountains and the gorgeous surrounding area. Knoxville is only minutes away though so for all intents and purposes there is a lot to do within a quick drive.

Tennessee Theatre and Clarence Brown Theatre are two great entertainment venues to catch live performances and onstage productions. Tennessee Theatre is housed in a 1920’s movie house with elegant, ornate, and original decorations. McClung Museum of Natural History and Culture covers a wide range of topics, like archaeology, anthropology, world art, local history, natural history, and geology. Knoxville Museum of Art is a great local resource and one of the best small museums in the region. Although they display art from world-renowned artists, the museum relishes the opportunity to display the artwork of local artists who submit their work.

If you head in the other direction towards the mountains, the resort town of Pigeon Forge awaits you. The small mountain town is home to Dollywood, the world-famous theme park named for and owned by Dolly Parton, the country music superstar. People visit the park to ride thrilling amusement rides, learn about the local culture, and enjoy music performances by well-known musicians.
