The Great Outdoors

Book a motorhome rental in Scotrun and head east to the Big Pocono State Park, which centers around the summit of Camelback Mountain. Embark on a scenic drive to the top while soaking up the panoramic views across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York or explore along the park’s seven miles of interconnecting trails. Visiting during the winter months? The Big Pocono State Park is also home to the Camelback Ski Area - the largest skiing and snowboarding facility in the Pocono Mountains.

A short drive east of Scotrun takes you to the Tannersville Cranberry Bog Preserve, which is home to an outstanding birdlife and endangered butterflies. It’s the southernmost boreal bog east of the Mississippi River and is listed as a National Natural Landmark, with a floating boardwalk allowing visitors to explore its fragile environment. Learn about the bog’s unique plant species while keeping your eyes peeled for Nashville warblers, bog turtles, and coyotes.

If you’re traveling with bicycles, don’t miss a visit to the Mount Airy Red Rock Bike Trail, which traverses a conservation easement near Paradise Valley. The dirt trail extends for eight miles and is generally well-groomed, with some sections featuring switchbacks and stone steps. It’s a short drive from the Kurmes Preserve that protects a 400-acre oak and laurel forest, with meandering creeks and hiking trails to explore.

Pick up your RV rental in Scotrun and head to the picturesque Scotrun RV Resort, which is located just outside the town center. It’s set around a lake where guests are welcome to fish and is home to a swimming pool, mini-golf course, and basketball court that will keep young guests entertained.

You can also pull into one of the RV sites at the Four Seasons Campground, which lies just a couple of minutes’ drive to the west of Scotrun. It’s popular with ATV enthusiasts and situated within 850 forested acres that offer 35 miles of groomed trails for all skill levels. There’s also an Olympic-sized swimming pool and a fishing pond that’s well stocked throughout the year.

Another nearby option is the Mountain Vista Campground where you can select between their basic, full hookup, and pull-through RV sites. Take advantage of the recreational area, outdoor gym, and laundromat, as well as the spacious dog run where your four-legged friends can run free.

Or, you can head to East Stroudsburg and its Walmart where you may be able to camp for a night or two with the manager’s permission.
