In the northeastern reaches of the San Antonio metropolitan area, the Hill Country town of Schertz, Texas, is an ideal destination. With its central location between the bustling walkways of the Riverwalk and downtown San Antonio paired with the beauty of the meandering rivers and stunning limestone features of the Hill Country, you can’t go wrong when you book a camper rental in Schertz. This agricultural-turned-Air Force town offers some of Texas’s most welcoming vibes, sure to make you feel right at home in the Lone Star State.

Even though the roads are “bigger in Texas,” you may want to park the Schertz motorhome rental and venture out to explore using other means. Alamo Regional Transit operates limited curb-to-curb transportation. Just be sure to plan in advance.

When you book an RV in Guadalupe County, you will put yourself right in the center of the Texas Hill Country. Just under an hour's drive in any direction will land you in cities with their own unique flairs, natural regions with their own stunning qualities, and everything in between.

Discover Schertz

The Great Outdoors

Just to the northeast of Schertz is the pocket of Lockhart State Park in Lockhart, Texas. This little piece of paradise is the perfect escape from the city. Traversing the several miles of trails, you can guide yourself through this central Texas destination. You’ll find yourself hiking alongside interesting geologic features, along quiet creeks and streams, and through dazzling forests. Not only that but at Lockhart State Park, you can hit the green in a whole new way on their nine-hole golf course.

Just north of San Antonio is the stunning and quintessential Hill Country escape of Guadalupe River State Park in Spring Branch, Texas. At Guadalupe River State Park, you can slather on some sunscreen, grab an inner tube, and float down the river and leave all of your worries behind. Or instead, maybe rent a canoe or kayak and guide yourself through the river. If you’d rather stay dry, then you can head out on the trails that will lead you through some of the Hill Country’s most beautiful old-growth forests.

If you want to escape to the tropics, the Palmetto State Park in Gonzales, Texas, is the place to go. Thanks to the various sources of water that happen to meet at the point, plus the already warm and relatively humid weather of central Texas, Palmetto State Park is a little tropical oasis. You can walk along trails lined with palm trees and bright flowers or rent a boat and explore the waterways.

RV Parks

When you find yourself needing to rest and relax, there are several places in and around Schertz you can stay when you rent an RV.

To the northeast of town is the Landa RV and Campgrounds. At Landa, guests can expect to find full hookups, restroom and shower facilities, and laundry facilities. Guests will also have access to several nearby central Texas attractions.

Just a short drive to the east of town is the Stone Cross Ranch RV Park. At Stone Cross Ranch, guests can access restroom and shower facilities, laundry facilities, a fishing pond, and workout facilities.

Explore the City

When you rent an RV in Schertz, be sure to make time to explore the community around you. The San Antonio metro area is one of the most culturally diverse and exciting places to be in Texas, and you definitely won’t want to miss out on all you can see and do.

Just to the north of town is Natural Bridge Caverns, a dual park with a drive-through zoo and a cavern system. If you find yourself needing to get out of the Texas sun, you can head underground and experience the cool (in more ways than one) caverns. You’ll get to see beautiful geologic formations and an underground river. You can also head to the drive-through zoo and feed all sorts of animals, such as gemsbok, zebras, and gazelles; and keep in mind, the ostriches know you have food.

If you'd label yourself as a “gearhead,” then you might want to spend the day at the San Antonio Raceway. Here, you can watch local drag races, monster trucks, and “fancy cars” compete to see who is the best. You might even be visiting when there is a musical guest scheduled to perform.

In the midst of this sometimes steamy region is the waterpark in New Braunfels. This park is fed by natural spring water and has over 50 attractions. With slides, lazy rivers, and pools, you might run out of time before you run out of activities. You can visit the original section of the park and enjoy the spring-fed lazy river, or head to the newer part for fast slides and wave pools.

When you secure an RV rental in Schertz, be sure to secure yourself a table at one of the local Tex-Mex eateries. You probably won’t find better Tex-Mex in central Texas than you will in the San-Antonio metro area. And when you find yourself needing to restock and refuel your camper rental in Schertz, you will have the best luck to the north and west of town.
