The city of Salem is located in northeastern Ohio in Columbiana County, with some parts of the city spilling over to the neighboring Mahoning County. Neighboring cities include Canfield, Leetonia, and Beloit, among others.

Salem, OH is steeped in rich American history and was actually the home of the Anti-Slavery Bugle, a newspaper supported by abolitionist beliefs that was first published in 1845. Salem was also home to the Progressive Friends, a local group of Quakers who purposely separated themselves from the main Quaker body in order to pursue causes important to them.

Given its geographic location between Cleveland and Pittsburgh, an RV rental in Salem will allow for easy exploration of not only Ohio but also western Pennsylvania.

Discover Salem

The Great Outdoors

The city is filled with plenty of trees and green space, which makes it easy to immediately start enjoying the outdoors after you pick up your camper rental in Salem. The nearest outdoor entertainment space in Salem is the Waterworth Memorial Park. This park is directly across the street from Hope Cemetery, and together they provide many miles of walking trails that guests can explore at their leisure.

South of the city you’ll be able to explore Guilford Lake State Park. Point your luxury motorhome from Salem towards here and go explore. There are plenty of spaces for you to park your RV in the nearly 400-acre park, so don’t worry about cutting into your leisure time while you search through parking lots. The gentle rolling landscape of the park is filled with plenty of trees and small lookout points, and Guilford Lake is a nice place to boat, fish, and swim.

If you prefer something with a bit more diverse wildlife, you’ll want to head up to Berlin Lake Wildlife Area. This wildlife area and accompanying lake are great places to see everything from cottontail rabbits to white-tailed deer, opossums, and many different birds. Berlin Lake is filled with a diverse collection of fish, and during migration seasons you may even spot some bald eagles stopping for a bite to eat as they pass through the region.

RV Parks

When you book a camper rental in Salem, the many surrounding RV parks mean that there are plenty of places available for you to choose where you park your Salem RV rental.

The types of RV parks and amenities are similar across the spectrum, so it more depends on what you want to see in the surrounding region. If you plan to head north, you’ll come across the Chaparral Family Campground, which caters towards families and quiet travelers, and the Western Reserve Park, which sometimes features live music. Both of these RV parks have full hookups for your RV and help you out with electricity, water, concrete pads, and dumping stations.

Heading south will take you past a KOA that has all the standard amenities and online booking, while heading east or west you’ll run into slightly smaller RV parks that have a different charm. No matter which RV park you pick you’ll be able to fill up everything that needs filling and, arguably, more importantly, empty the things that need emptying when you rent an RV.

Exploring the City

One of the major perks of a travel trailer rental from Salem is the ability to explore the surrounding area, but that doesn’t mean you should completely forget about all the attractions that Salem itself has to offer. It should be noted that Salem’s street grid is a bit wonky, so it is important to remember that most of the restaurants, gas stations and general shops you’ll need to round out your trip can be found on State Street. This street is part of the Salem Downtown Historic District, so if you find the time, you may want to park and walk around to see all the small shops.

Once you’ve got everything you need from State Street, there are a few options for you to continue on your outdoor adventure. Heading south in town to the Salem Golf Club is a fun option, which is an 18 hole course with its own assortment of challenges and unique features. The course was first established in 1921 as a 9-hole course, and in 1967 the second 9 holes were added to bring it up to standard. The clubhouse itself is a historic building, and on location, there is also an Olympic sized swimming pool and two tennis courts for guests to use.

A complete change of pace from golf is a trip to the Quaker City Motorsports Park, just north of the city. The motorsports park offers plenty of space to park your Salem travel trailer rental while you enjoy a day of racing.
