Discover Rockford

Experience the Sites and Scenery

Apart from Memorial Park in the heart of town, there are not many parks within Rockford proper, but don’t let that discourage you. Memorial Park features two quiet walking trails that wind through wetlands and over creeks and has a huge wooden playground for children.

Fred Meijer White Pine Trail State Park is a long winding park that reaches from Grand Rapids to Cadillac and sits on the old path that held the Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad. Walking these 92 miles of trail is an incredible way to experience the nature while getting a fabulous workout, too.

If you take your Rockford motorhome rental south through Grand Rapids, Yankee Springs Recreation is a state-run protected area with endless recreational activities. Swim, fish, or boat through any of the nine majestic lakes on site or hike through the pines to see the Devil’s Soup Bowl, a glacially-carved kettle formation.

If you head to Muskegon out on the shores of Lake Michigan, many stunning beaches and coastal areas await you and your Rockford camper rental. Hoffmaster State Park has three miles of gorgeous sandy beaches and a thought-provoking nature center that teaches visitors about the importance of the park to the local migratory birds and wildlife. Muskegon State Park has two seasonal campgrounds for you and your Rockport rental RV, a boat ramp, and lots of sandy beachfront property, too. This park is even fantastic in the winter with lots of ice skating and cross-country skiing among other things.

The massive Huron-Manistee National Forests dominate northern Michigan with their serene wetlands and thousands of lakes and waterways. There is of course many opportunities at these two national forests to hike, bike, rock climb, canoe, kayak, hunt, fish, and camp, and a million acres of land waiting to be explored.

City Attractions

As mentioned before, the delightful Rockford downtown area sits on the Rogue River and serves as the main focal point in town. Here, there are sidewalks lined with unique shops and boutiques, plus lots of restaurants, microbreweries, and cafes. Rockford even has a magnificent farmers market all summer each year, one that was once voted to be the best in the country. The market is held next to the downtown area by the river and is the perfect place to mingle with kind locals while buying artisan crafts and fresh food. The Rockford Area Museum has lots of items paying homage to the rich heritage of Rockford.

Grand Rapids is a short drive away and has lots to see if you prefer to tour the bigger cities. Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park is a nice place to spend an afternoon, and stroll the pathways gazing upon the perfectly manicured greenery and iconic artwork. The park is also home to a large amphitheater that frequently hosts summertime music festivals and concert events. The Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum celebrates the life of the 38th president of the United States and contains thousands of artifacts as well as many documents and books held in the presidential library. Grand Rapids also has the Grand Rapids Art Museum and the Grand Rapids Public Museum that educate visitors and introduce them to the culture of West Michigan.

Where to Park It

There aren’t many places to stay within town when you rent an RV in Rockford, but there are lots of parks and campgrounds just minutes away in surrounding communities. Duke Creek Campground sits on 36 wooded acres and has a playground, recreational courts and fields, a grocery store, and a heated pool during the summer months.

Go fishing in the 85-acre lake next to Three Seasons Family Campground, or swim in the pool. There is a game room for rainy days which has air hockey, ping pong, billiards, and lots of board games.

Lincoln Pines Resorts has camping with all the usual amenities. Use the game rooms or basketball courts or rent a kayak or canoe and explore the shores and waters of the lake next to the park. Or, get cozy at the Scalley Lake Campground with your Rockford rental RV, and rest among the peaceful lakeside views and blissful forest groves.
