Originally a trading post along the Flint River, the small town of Roberta, Georgia has come a long way since its humble beginnings. You can book an RV in Roberta and see for yourself what makes this idyllic little town tick.

When the first railway was built in town, it needed some land to lay tracks on, and a resident of the town offered to allow construction on his land. In return for his offer, he was given naming rights to the newly founded town, choosing the name Roberta in honor of his seven-year-old daughter. The man that named the town would also own its first businesses, and become its first mayor, interestingly enough. In 1910, Roberta was officially incorporated as a town, and at one point became a vibrant and bustling hub after the completion of US Highway 341. Years later, Interstate 75 would bypass Roberta, sending it back to relative obscurity.

Now Roberta retains its small-town charm and serves as a more than suitable place to rent an RV while serving as a home base for your travels through Georgia. This sleepy town is located a few dozen miles west of Macon, and around an hour's drive south of Atlanta, the largest metropolitan center in the state, and possibly the entire Southeast region.

The Great Outdoors

Few places possess more ideal places to trek through the wilderness or camp beneath the stars than Georgia. It is truly an incredible place for outdoor exploration and recreation. No matter where you may find yourself in The Peach State, you are sure to be within a stone’s throw of some incredible places. Just down the road from Roberta, you can head off to the shores of Lake Tobesofkee when you rent an RV and want to luxuriate in some glorious views. Both Claystone Park and Lake Tobesofkee Recreation Area provide visitors with a safe and inviting space to make use of this fantastic lake and the sandy beaches that line it. There are places to camp out in your Roberta camper rental, swimming areas, fun-filled events like the annual 4th of July Celebration, and a water park for children.

F.D. Roosevelt State Park is found in the opposite direction and is a wonderful place to visit for different reasons. The park is named for Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the 32nd president of the United States, and a frequent visitor to the area. Roosevelt loved the area enough to build a summer home nearby, and often bathed in the hot springs within the park, known for their medicinal, healing properties and therapeutic comfort. The park is dotted with historical structures, statues of the president, hiking trails, cabins, stone swimming pools, and camping sites you can use when you bring your Roberta RV rental for a multiple day excursion.

If you want to spend even more time by the water, West Point Lake is an exceptional place to go. There are scores of nature parks, beaches, campgrounds, and recreation areas surrounding this epic, human-made lake, so the options are seemingly endless. Yellowjacket Creek Recreation Area and Evansville Recreation Area are two of the most exciting places that you will find along the lake, offering camping, hiking, swimming, boating, fishing, and more. Oconee National Forest can be found east of Atlanta and south of Athens, with a whole host of other possibilities when you bring your Roberta motorhome rental to this lush, forest paradise. Uncover hidden waterfalls and secret swimming spots in the midst of this massive wilderness area, or simply relax at your rustic, tranquil campsite.

RV Parks

Once you pick up your recreational vehicle and head out of town, you’ll see that there are plenty of places where you can camp overnight in the great state of Georgia. Forsyth KOA Campground has a fishing pond, a swimming pool, bicycle rentals, and a snack bar among other things.

Safe Haven RV Park is close to the highway as well as many of Macon’s local attractions, so it could be a solid place to camp for a night or two when you want to stroll around the city. All of the basic amenities can be found at Safe Haven, and a large fishing pond too.

Arrowhead Park at Tobesofkee Recreation Area is an option too, especially if all you need are the sights and sounds of nature. This minimalist park has fishing areas, a playground, a boat launch, and sports fields available for guests to use.

Exploring the City

It may be welcoming, and it may be peaceful, but Roberta lacks the excitement and energy that you'd usually find in larger towns and cities. Luckily, Macon is no more than a half an hour's drive east, and fully capable of keeping you busy and happy while on vacation. The Georgia Sports Hall of Fame calls Macon home, giving sports lovers a gleaming attraction worthy of their time. This unique, massive museum space has thousands of artifacts pertaining to the state’s sports stars, and over 300 inductees into its Hall of Fame.

The Museum of Arts and Sciences in Macon has a wealth of interesting exhibits, planetarium shows, prehistoric artifacts, works of art, and hands-on science demonstrations. There is even a fossilized whale skeleton in the museum.

If you value learning about history, you are in for a treat when you bring your Roberta camper rental to Macon. The Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park celebrates nearly 17,000 years of continuous human habitation in the area, from the first hunter-gatherers to call the space home, to the Mississippian culture that built large-scale earthen mound structures. Many of the park’s mounds have been around for thousands of years, built for the elite within their societies.
