Port Richey, FL, is a part of Pasco County, along with the towns of New Port Richey, Spring Hill,  Clearwater, and Oldsmar. It, along with the other cities of Pasco County, is a bedroom community for Tampa. It is a small settlement, 2.7 square miles in size and with an elevation of 10 ft above sea level, meaning that most outdoor activities here are centered around water. When you book an RV in Port Richey, you can sit in comfort, taking in the magnificent lake and ocean views from the front porch of your home on wheels.

The city was named after Aaron M. Richey, who established its post office in his home in 1884 and was finally incorporated in 1925. It is famous for being home to Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash from 1979 to 2002. It should not be confused with New Port Richey, just slightly to the south.

Port Richey has numerous gas stations, as well as multiple grocery stores and supermarkets. Many of these are locally owned and include several discount stores and at least two Walmarts. Begin your vacation by stocking up at one of the Walmarts, where you can easily park your Port Richey luxury rental RV in their huge parking lot for a night or two while planning the next leg of your adventure.

Discover Port Richey

The Great Outdoors

Port Richey is all about the water and there is no better way to take in this destination than by seeing it from the water. Enjoy a dolphin exploration cruise or a sunset dinner cruise, or spend the day moving quietly through the bay on a full-size sailboat. Those who really enjoy the quiet and solitude the water provides can go it alone in a kayak or on a paddle board.

Land dwellers can still take in an incredible sunset from Brasher Park; it is slightly hidden and can be hard to locate, but it’s worth hunting it down in the Port Richey motorhome rental. Hikers can get their adrenaline going at Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park, which has four dedicated trails with boardwalks so guests can walk through the mangroves. Animal lovers can see dolphins, tortoises and gray foxes in the park’s many bayous and inlets, and the park is heaven for birdwatchers, who can see everything from migratory birds to raptors. Park your Port Richey rental RV here and you can finish your tour of this park with a home cooked snack and coffee, before returning to your overnight RV site.

RV Parks

There are many RV parks to choose from in or near Port Richey. Ja-Mar North Travel Park, located right in Port Richey, has grass sites with full hookups and room for slideouts. It has restrooms & showers, a laundromat, and a self-serve RV wash. Its recreational facilities include a heated pool and pond, horseshoes, shuffleboard, pickleball, fishing, a pavilion, and organized games and events.

Also centrally located, Sundance Lakes RV Resort is an adult-oriented park that has some short-term grass sites (most sites here are rented seasonally) and full hookups. Wi-fi is available, as are restrooms, showers, a laundromat, and self-service RV wash. Guests here can enjoy the recreation center and swimming pool, play shuffleboard or horseshoes, or go fishing.

Just north of Port Richey, you will find both Suncoast RV Resort and Oak Springs RV Resort just off of U.S. 19. Suncoast is separated from the highway by a row of mature trees, lessening traffic noise, and has a clubhouse with a reading room and a pavilion. Oak Springs has a recreation hall with bingo, billiards and card rooms, shuffleboard courts, horseshoe pits, and barbecue areas. Both spots have full hookups, wi-fi, outdoor pools, and laundromats.

East of Port Richey, you will find Orchid Lake RV Resort. Orchid also has a clubhouse with a library and billiards room, and an outdoor pool. Farther out, you can find Seven Springs Travel Park in New Port Richey and Topics RV Resort in Spring Hill. Any of these destinations can serve as a stopping off point for your Port Richey rental RV.

Exploring The City

There is mini-golf and then there is Congo River Miniature Golf, a combination of mini-golf set inside a theme park. Practice your strokes while trying to putt through a miniature waterfall, and no other mini-golf anywhere else will ever be the same. Congo River has sites in several cities in Florida, and at the Port Richey venue, guests can help staff to feed the live alligators.

Port Richey is also home to a massive antique store; this is not just an antique store but an entire mall of antiques, housing everything from housewares to cutlery, furniture to lighting and fine art, and more.

Richey Suncoast Theater is a local landmark where visitors can take in some of the very best concerts and theater shows. The talent, stagehands, and management are all from the area and the productions are of high quality. The theater also provides food and refreshments, for those who wish to come early and secure a good seat.

There is something comforting, even welcoming, about an all-day breakfast establishment and Port Richey's offerings in this food style are no exception. Guests can choose from at least four restaurants that fall into this category and all of them come well recommended. There are, naturally, seafood restaurants, both American style, and Japanese sushi houses, to be found, as well as barbecue and steakhouses. Additional eateries include country-style fare, Irish pub restaurants, Mediterranean and Italian menus, family restaurants for the children, and more. Most of Port Richey's eateries offer large portions, so don't be embarrassed if you can't finish your meal in one sitting; have your meal wrapped up and take it back to your Port Richey rental motorhome, to be enjoyed at your leisure the next day.
