The tiny community of Pine, which is also called Pine Grove, sits between the mountain towns of Conifer and Buffalo Creek in the center of Colorado. Many travelers would write off vacationing in such a small town, but what it lacks in big city amenities it more than makes up for in outdoor recreation opportunities. Pike National Forest is just minutes away and crisscrossed by a number of excellent hiking trails. If you venture farther into the mountains, you’ll have the chance to climb some of Colorado’s “Fourteeners”, peaks exceeding 14,000 feet of elevation - some of the tallest in the country. When you book an RV in Pine, you’re sure to find solitude and a chance to connect with nature.
Pine is also not quite as isolated as it first appears. It’s a relatively short drive to Denver, even if the landscapes around you have you questioning how a major metropolitan area could be anywhere nearby. If you do decide to take a day trip into the metropolis with your camper rental in Pine, it’d be a good idea to park on the outskirts of the city and use bus or rapid transit to reach the downtown area. Navigating Denver’s traffic can be quite a challenge; the volume of vehicles here continues to increase as more people realize the joys of living at the foot of the Rocky Mountains.
Getting a travel trailer rental in Pine is all about spending time in nature and fortunately, you won’t need to travel far to do it. Pine sits at the confluence of the North Fork of the South Platte River and Elk Creek and right on the edge of the Pike National Forest. In any direction you go, you’re sure to find fun things to do outside.
Pine Valley Ranch Park is one of the closest places to go for some outdoor recreation and offers some great green space along the South Platte River. Visitors can fish in its cool blue waters, play frisbee in grassy areas nearby, or even rent a kayak to paddle around in it. Staunton State Park, one of the state’s newest, is another favorite among residents of Pine due to its close proximity and variety of outdoor opportunities. Trails there range from easy to somewhat difficult and are frequently used for dog walking, horseback riding, and regular old hiking.
When you get a camper rental in Pine you’ll also be putting yourself close to the Colorado Trail, one of America’s most famous long-distance trails extending from Denver to Durango. While you probably won’t want to hike the whole 456 miles of it during your Pine RV rental vacation, doing a short section is the perfect way to experience this legendary trail without making a huge time commitment.
When you choose an RV rental in Pine it’s important to note that facilities can be few and far between. Most of the nearby camping options have limited amenities and cater to visitors wanting to immerse themselves in nature. Idylease Campground in Reynolds Park is a relatively short drive away on Highway 97 and offers a fairly rustic camping experience. Sites have bathrooms and bear-proof storage lockers, but not much else in the way of amenities. Another rustic option is Meridian Campground a little way to the north, which has vault toilets and drinking water available.
If you rent an RV in Pine and want more of a full-service camping experience, you’ll probably need to drive to Littleton. Flyer Saucer RV Park has full hookups, laundry facilities, Wi-Fi, and is close to an 18-hole golf course. There’s also Dakota Ridge RV Park near Golden, which has a swimming pool and hot tub, a library, and full hookups for your Pine RV rental.
If you don’t mind dry camping with your Pine motorhome rental, the nearest Walmart is on the western edge of Littleton. With manager permission, you might be able to stay here for a few days. For dump stations and fuel look for truck stops along Interstate 25 and 70. Both are a fair distance away, so plan your stops accordingly.
Most visitors come to Pine for the outdoor recreation, so you can’t expect too many city amenities during your visit there. However, for a fun shopping experience, you should check out the antique mall on the southeastern edge of town. It can take hours to browse through the store, but shoppers with enough patience are sure to find some treasures amongst the thousands of used items being sold there.
Pine also doesn’t have a very extensive restaurant set with most places serving the standard American fare found in many small towns consisting of pizza and burgers. A trip to nearby Conifer will also give you a broader selection, and for higher-end cuisine, head into Denver or one of its suburbs to find more international options. Pine does have one very important culinary experience – its yearly rhubarb festival in June. There’s a small parade, a carnival for the kids, great live music, and of course, all the rhubarb-based dishes you can think of.
