Southeast of Columbus, Ohio is the small suburb of Pickerington. Pickerington was founded in 1815 under the name Jacksonville, which was later changed to honor its founder, Abraham Pickering. Despite being 15 minutes away from Columbus, Pickerington masterfully retains its charming small town feel and elegance. The historic downtown is a walkable wonderland full of exquisite dining and shopping housed in old village cottages, with stylish scenery and green open space pulling it all together. Within Ohio, Pickerington is known as the “Purple City”, and the “Violet Capital of Ohio” for its many flowers and its yearly Violet Festival. Additionally, the Pickerington Village Pet Fest, Pickerington Village Mayfest, and the Picktown Palooza are just a few of the wonderful events you can attend when you rent an RV in Pickerington.

Discover Pickerington

Explore the Outdoors

Amidst the shops and streets of Olde Pickerington Village, you can find a number of dazzling parks and gardens laced with purple violets and emerald green trees. Victory Park is one of the best in central Pickerington, with a wonderful playground for kids to enjoy, and a few picnic shelters for family cookouts. Sycamore Creek Park is much larger and has delightful gazebos, covered bridges, basketball courts, recreation fields, sheltered pavilions, a skatepark, and an amphitheater for music. Throughout the summer, the amphitheater is home to the town’s summer concert series.

Pickerington Ponds Metro Park is a great first stop on your way out of town with the Pickerington rental RV. The park is run by the Central Ohio Park System and has some of the state’s premier birdwatching. A series of winding trails can be explored around the park, some of which lead to the large wetlands and pond in the central area. Walnut Woods Metro Park and Three Creeks Metro Park are a few other great places to stop in your Pickerington RV rental while you are still in the area. Both feature spectacular scenery and numerous examples of local wildlife in their natural habitats, like deer, owls, beavers, and many others.

Wayne National Forest, near Athens, is a popular destination worth mentioning, particularly if you hope to do some real nature camping in your Pickerington camper rental. Although it was once a heavily forested swath of land suffering from severe soil erosion, Wayne National Forest has rebounded back and blossomed into a magnificent forested land of wonder with several long-distance trails running within its borders. The Great Serpent Mound is located halfway between Columbus and Cincinnati. This fascinating historical site is home to ancient structures built by the indigenous tribal people over 2,000 years ago. Cuyahoga Valley National Park is one of the more recent additions to the National Park System that was officially created in 2000 after being a recreation area for many years. Bringing your Pickerington motorhome rental to this breathtaking park along the Cuyahoga River is a must when touring this region of Ohio.
