Philadelphia is known as the birthplace of America and is rife with historical sites and over 60 beautiful parks. There are plenty of Insta-worthy photo ops at the 2000+ outdoor murals, as Philadelphia has the most public art of any other US city. Plus, they have a ton of Impressionist paintings – out of every city in the world, they come in second only to Paris. Philadelphia, PA, is also known as the city of firsts. From the nation’s first newspaper to the first hospital, it all started here. Outside of the city, you can immerse yourself in nature at one of the state parks, but beach bums will want to head to the Atlantic shore. There are plenty of coastal towns to explore, and family-friendly Ocean City, NJ, is only an hour away. Book an RV in Philadelphia and plan the perfect trip exploring the East Coast. From Philly, it only takes about two hours to get to three of the most iconic cities in the U.S.A.: New York, Washington D.C., and Scranton (for all of The Office fans out there).

The Great Outdoors

There are more than 15 state parks within easy driving distance of Philly, but some are day-use only. Search for an RV in Philadelphia and rent an RV by-owner to make traveling simple. Benjamin Rush is the only state park within city limits, and has routes for hiking, biking, and skiing. They also grow a vast community garden and have a dedicated field for model airplane flying. Ridley Creek State Park is open year-round and has 13 miles of trails for visitors to enjoy, including five miles of horse riding trails. You can bring your own, or contact the onsite equestrian facility to take a riding lesson or arrange a pony ride for children. Find an activity for everyone at Tyler State Park – from hiking to boating, disc golfing to nature walks, there are plenty of opportunities for fun. While you’re there, you may see wildlife such as snapping turtles, muskrats, frogs, and various types of forest and field birds. For the avid hiker, biker, or rider, the Wissahickon Valley Park has over 50 miles of trails that wind through the gorge, leading you to Philadelphia’s last standing covered bridge. If you want to set up camp, head to French Creek State Park and stay up to 14 nights. The park contains the largest block of contiguous forest in the 260 miles between D.C. and New York, and there are activities year-round. You can also step back in time by visiting Valley Forge National Park, and be inspired by the story of George Washington leading the troops in the Revolution. Reenactment actors provide educational programs and interactive stories, and the park also has a 9 self-guided driving tour of the historic sites you can take in your RV rental from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Philadelphia parks are stunning year-round. Wildflowers abound in the spring, and summer brings lush foliage and perfect weather to splash around in a creek. The forests are set ablaze in vibrant orange and crimson in the fall, and winter snows are enchanting. Enjoy all four seasons in your luxury RV rental in Philadelphia.

RV Parks

Finding an RV rental in Philadelphia, PA, is easy, and so is finding a place to stay. For a traditional RV and camping experience, the Philadelphia South/Clarksboro KOA is beautifully wooded with electric hookups, free WiFi, a pool, fishing area, and dog park. It’s right off of I-295, and only 12 miles from the city. The 401 bus has a stop a mile away and comes every two hours, taking you straight into the city. A great option for people who want to spend the majority of their time exploring downtown would be the Campus Park and Ride – an RV parking area with 24-hour transport to and from the city using shuttles to the Philadelphia Transit System buses and trains. Amenities include restrooms and showers, water and electric, a dump station, and WiFi.

There are several diesel gas stations around the city, with many extending up the northeast area of the city. Public parking is quite accessible as there are two Walmarts on the northern side of Philly with access to public transit (you’ll want to take the MFO and R line buses), and one on the south side that also has easy access to city buses.

Exploring the City

Philadelphia is a historic city full of national landmarks. One of the main attractions is the infamous, cracked Liberty Bell. The Liberty Bell Center is steps away from Independence Hall, also referred to as the birthplace of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Book a tour to get into Independence Hall, and see firsthand where the Founding Fathers dreamed up our nation. The National Constitution Center takes an interactive approach to history, with multimedia productions and displays for visitors to get up close and personal with the United States’ most famous documents, including the original copy of the Emancipation Proclamation. If your kids are bored of history (we’ve all been there), the Please Touch Museum is the perfect place for them to burn off some energy and play with interactive exhibits.

This city has a lot of nicknames, and the most unique has to be “the City of Brotherly Love”. Feel the love by exploring the vibrant neighborhoods in the city (bonus points if you can find the playground where the Fresh Prince spent most of his days). Center City is in the heart of downtown and encompasses historic Old City and Rittenhouse Square. Old City has cobblestone streets lined with incredible restaurants, boutiques, and art galleries. Visit on the first Friday of the month for the gallery hop! Rittenhouse Square is full of gorgeous historic buildings, museums, and restaurants with patio dining for the warm summer months. The part of Philly best known for its LGBT nightlife is Midtown Village. Head north and you will come across Fishtown, an up and coming area known for its independent everything.

Philadelphia is a city that is full of surprises. Outdoorsy has the best RV rentals in Philadelphia, so you can turn your vacation into the trip of a lifetime.
