The classic South Carolinian city of Orangeburg is located south of Columbia, near Santee. Orangeburg was founded in the early 1700s by George Sterling, an Indian trader who, along with many German and Swiss immigrants, moved to the area to take advantage of the region's fertile farming soils.

The city was named Orangeburg after William IV, the prince of Orange, who was the son of King George II of England. This name shows the history of this city as it was named before the Revolutionary War. Orangeburg contains lots of history due to its age and is surrounded by some of the best natural sights in South Carolina.
