On the outskirts of Baltimore’s urban sprawl, Nottingham, Maryland, is a small residential community that’s clustered around a vibrant commercial hub. It’s surrounded by recreational reservoirs and river-front beaches, making it a great destination to rent an RV if you want to get out and explore.

Once mined for its natural sand and gravel deposits, the area on which Nottingham now stands was identified for development as late as the 1960s. Since that time, community services, retail centers, and residential dwellings have mushroomed in the region and the town of Nottingham was officially established.

Discover Nottingham

The Great Outdoors

Pick up your RV rental in Nottingham and drive north to the Honeygo Run Regional Park, which has plenty of hiking trails where you can stretch your legs. Follow the Honeygo Run riverbank along the Red Trail and visit the Big Rocks viewpoint, then wind through the tract of marshy grasses and ferns that leads to Silver Lake Drive. Aside from the park’s wooded trails, there are also plenty of recreational facilities for kids to let off steam and a large dog park where your four-legged friends can run around.

Alternatively, rent a motorhome in Nottingham and make the drive northeast to the Loch Raven Reservoir, a scenic recreational area that provides drinking water for the city of Baltimore. A series of picturesque hiking trails wind along its shores, with fantastic bird watching opportunities to spot woodpeckers, blue jays, and bald eagles. If you want to get out on the water, stop in at the Loch Raven Fishing Center where you can rent kayaks, canoes, and a variety of fishing equipment.

Another popular birding destination near Nottingham is the Gunpowder Falls State Park - Hammerman Area, which overlooks Gunpowder River where it flows into the Chesapeake Bay. There’s a swimming beach where you can cool off in the summer months and the opportunity to go kayaking and canoeing from the marina. Birdwatchers should keep an eye out for bald eagles, osprey, ruddy ducks, and a diversity of sparrows, particularly during the spring and fall migration seasons.

RV Parks

When you pick up your motorhome rental in Nottingham, you can drive northeast to the riverfront Bar Harbor RV Park. It’s positioned on a wooded peninsula and offers a variety of family-friendly amenities, including a pool and children’s playground. You can fish directly from the pier or rent kayaks and paddleboards from the on-site marina, and Wi-Fi is also available.

Just south of Nottingham is the Orems Trailer Park, which has a range of long-term and short-term sites within its shaded grounds. Pets are welcome to stay with you and it’s within proximity to shopping centers and laundry facilities.

You could also drive through the city of Baltimore to the Washington DC/Capitol KOA, which is situated on 50 acres of rolling countryside in Millersville. There’s an outdoor pool, basketball court, and a jumping pillow, as well as daily shuttles to the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.

The closest Walmart is just a short drive south and you may be able to set up camp for a night or two here with the manager’s permission.

Exploring the City

Park your RV rental in Nottingham and explore its commercial heart on foot, with shops selling everything from sporting wear to household linen and home improvement supplies. Nottingham is home to a number of supermarkets where you can stock up on supplies and a handful of gas stations, as well as plenty of fast food eateries and restaurants for dining out. Grab a bite to eat at one of the grill-style restaurants or fast food eateries, then settle in for a coffee with the day’s newspaper.

Nottingham also makes an ideal base for exploring Baltimore, which is packed with world-class museums and art galleries, such as The Walters Art Museum. Learn about the story behind “The Star-Spangled Banner” at Fort McHenry or catch a Major League baseball game at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. If you’re traveling with kids, be sure to visit the National Aquarium and Maryland Science Center, both of which are located at Inner Harbor.

Also docked at Inner Harbor is the USS Constellation, which now functions as a museum ship for visitors to explore. Witness one of the weekend cannon-firing demonstrations and experience life on a 19th-century sailing ship, then jump aboard one of the sightseeing boats along the Patapsco River. They offer a unique perspective on Baltimore, with sweeping views of Federal Hill, Fell’s Point, and the Key Bridge.

Whether you’re visiting Baltimore County for its bird-filled parks or to take in the city sights, book an RV in Nottingham and start your next adventure!
