The town of Nokomis, Florida is a sunny, peaceful coastal enclave on the shore of the Gulf of Mexico, offering lots of promise as a vacation destination. This mostly residential community has miles of coastal property in Roberts Bay, coupled with a lovely year-round climate that ensures comfortable temperatures in any month.

Nokomis was first settled in the early 20th century by real estate developers who purchased the land and immediately began to section it off for gated communities. Geographically, Nokomis lies a little bit south of Sarasota and Bradenton, and a couple hours' drive south of Tampa. This southern Florida getaway is a fabulous place to rent an RV, with towering palm trees and heavenly sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico. When you book an RV in Nokomis, you can take a large road trip through several of Florida’s finest beach towns or simply stay put and get some much-needed relaxation in a nearby campground overlooking the water.

Discover Nokomis

The Great Outdoors

It can certainly be overwhelming to navigate the many parks and nature reserves of coastal Florida, with countless refuges, recreation areas, and state beaches around every corner. Making your itinerary for your Nokomis RV rental trip should not be daunting, however, and you should enjoy figuring out where to spend most of your time during your travels. Myakka River State Park is minutes from Nokomis, so naturally, it is an obvious and easy place to check out when you rent an RV. Myakka River State Park is among the largest state parks in Florida, as well as one of the first established parks. Most of the park consists of lush coniferous forest which makes for excellent hiking. There are also exquisite sand dunes and coastal hammocks teeming with a myriad of different exotic bird species. Observing rare birds, hiking through thick forests and on beautiful boardwalks, cycling, horseback riding, and camping are fantastic ways to make use of your time while you bring your Nokomis camper rental for a visit.

Oscar Scherer State Park is much smaller than Myakka River State Park but just as impressive. Unsurprisingly, this small park is a known sanctuary for migratory birds, much like many other parks in the Sunshine State. There are exceptional beaches, marshes, and forests to hike through at Oscar Scherer State Park, or you can instead opt to canoe, kayak, swim, snorkel, scuba dive, or go fishing. There is even a visitor center to help you get the most out of your visit to the park when you arrive in your Nokomis motorhome rental.

If you head way down south to the tip of Florida, you can enjoy one of the best-known parks in the country: Everglades National Park. This majestic, unique stretch of wilderness is the largest park east of the Mississippi River as well as the largest tropical wilderness in the United States. More than one and a half million acres make up this exciting park, with epic stretches of pristine coastline, hidden marshes, alligator-infested swampland, and enchanting cypress mangroves. You can see countless examples of wildlife in the Everglades, like mountain lions, manatees, alligators, flamingos, and massive snakes. There are a few campgrounds located in different parts of the sprawling park, so you should easily find a suitable campground to keep your Nokomis RV rental while you hike through the woods.

RV Parks

When you rent an RV in Nokomis, you should find it easy to select a spot to park: there are hundreds of places to camp no matter where you find yourself in this part of Florida. Myakka River Resort could be a nice place to settle down in your Nokomis RV rental, with stunning views of the Myakka River where you can swim, kayak, canoe, or fish. There is a pool, clubhouse, sports courts, and a mini-golf course for guests to use, as well as several golf courses within a 10-minute drive.

Royal Coachman RV Resort has quite a few amenities, including in-ground pools, bicycle trails, a library, mini-golf, and a fitness center where guests can stay in shape while they vacation.

Ramblers Rest RV Campground is about 10 miles from Nokomis and has many of the same amenities as Royal Coachman does. You can also camp at one of the state or national parks mentioned above, where you'll find beautiful public campgrounds open year-round.

Exploring the City

Seeing as how Nokomis is mostly a residential area, you might have to head to nearby towns and cities to get your fix of attractions, restaurants, shops, and other points of interest. Venice is a nice town adjacent to Nokomis where you can stroll down the main street and window shop at trendy boutiques or have a glass of wine during happy hour while watching the sunset. Venice Fishing Pier is an iconic part of town with fishing, restaurants, volleyball, shops, and plenty of cool things to do near the beach.

Venice Museum & Archives is the de facto resource for all the surrounding communities, like Osprey, Laurel, Nokomis, and, of course, Venice. Over 20,000 artifacts can be seen in the museum, all with some sort of historical value or legacy. The building itself is a designated National Historic Landmark built in 1927, with some pretty architectural styles reminiscent of a Mediterranean villa.

Ideal Classic Cars Museum & Showroom is a must-see for car aficionados, as there are countless cars from every era in American history on display. The three-acre facility is teeming with classic muscle cars, all in mint condition.
