The northern Iowa town of Nashua is perfectly at home along the banks of Cedar Lake and the Cedar River. Although the town may be named after Nashua, New Hampshire, the two areas couldn’t be more different. In northern Iowa, you are treated to plains and gently rolling hills as far as the eye can see. With access to various Midwestern lakes and rivers, fishing opportunities are just as ample as the possibility to take a dip in the cool, refreshing water. You’ll also be able to indulge in some of the freshest food you’ve ever had, thanks to being in the middle of ones of America’s breadbaskets of agriculture.

When you book an RV in Chickasaw County, you are setting yourself up for a wonderful Midwestern adventure. With its many lakes, forests, and exploratory opportunities, Iowa is a wonderful place to rent an RV and enjoy the solitude of nature.

Discover Nashua

The Great Outdoors

A short drive east of town will take you to the local Wapsi Junction Park in New Hampton. This hidden gem within Chickasaw County welcomes explorers to a little natural oasis. The park is at the junction of two rivers: Wapsipinicon and Little Wapsipinicon. At 80 acres, visitors can explore the timber forests, enjoy and try to spot some of the local wildlife and try their luck fishing in the rivers. You’ll be able to escape the world in this little northern Iowa hideaway.

If you’re looking for a fun-filled day trip, you can head south to the Hawkeye Wildlife Management Area in Jefferson. At roughly 13,500 acres, the Hawkeye WMA serves as a wonderful stop-over point for migratory birds making their way north or south for the season. Not only that, but there are a variety of recreational activities offered on the grounds that will attract those not interested in bird watching. You can fish and hunt in the designated lands, hike along the nature trails, and even go berry picking. You’ll be able to explore timber forests, prairie lands, wetlands, and a desert.

An exciting and sure to be educational day trip awaits you just east of Nashua at the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge in Dubuque. At just under a quarter million acres (stretching into Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin), the refuge is home to local wildlife and serves as a breeding ground for migratory birds. From Nashua, you will be able to visit the McGregor District and the Savanna District. Wildlife enthusiasts are sure to find songbirds in the spring and waterfowl in the summer and fall. The local wildlife is most active in the winter when all of the temporary neighbors are gone.
