This small town is located on Mount Desert Island, which rests in the Atlantic Ocean, just offshore of the mainland portion of the state. The town shares the island with the acclaimed Acadia National Park. The nearest larger city, Bangor, is around 45 miles to the north, while the state's capital, Augusta, is around 100 miles to the west.
Thanks to the nearby national park, as well as other natural areas (not to mention, the nearby ocean), outdoor activities abound in this region. There are also museums, gardens and historical sites available for you to explore. There are plenty of unique shops and restaurants in town. Bar Harbor campground is located on the east side of the island, in Bar Harbor. The site is open during the summer season and offers a heated pool, electric hookups and a bathhouse. Reservations are not accepted at this park, so you may wish to call first to check their current availability.
