Mount Blanchard is a village in Hancock County, Ohio, that was established in 1830 and incorporated in 1865. Its name was chosen because it looks out over the Blanchard River Valley and it has had a post office since 1837. Today the village has plenty of open green space and a community that takes a strong interest and involves itself in civic matters. The downtown area has numerous historic brick buildings that lend atmosphere and character to the village. Hancock County was established in 1820 and was named after the first person to sign the Declaration of Independence, John Hancock.

The Great Outdoors

Wyandot Wildlife Area is a relatively flat area settled in the glacial lake plain region. It consists mostly of woodland tree stands, with some marsh areas. The habitat is an ideal location for pheasants, raccoons, and opossums, amongst other species, and deer and woodcock reside here in select seasons. Hunting is allowed, or guests can fish for bluegills and sunfish. The park is also ideal for hiking and nature watching.

Killdeer Plains Wildlife Area was initialized in 1952 as a natural basin of flat, poorly drained soils formerly covered by prairie sloughs. Since then, grasslands, trees, and shrubs have been planted to provide habitats for upland wildlife. The park now has several reservoirs and hundreds of small ponds that have been stocked with fish. Because of this work, it has become a popular destination for photographers and nature enthusiasts. Fishing and hunting are allowed. Park your Mount Blanchard RV rental nearby, and use it for a viewing blind while enjoying its creature comforts and you can enjoy the best of both worlds.

Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge consists of woodland, grassland, and wetland, and provides habitat for waterfowl and migratory birds, resident wildlife, and endangered species. Popular activities in the park include photography and bird or wildlife watching, which can be done from the elevated walkways that provide park access while protecting the plant life. Self-guided hikes and staff-led outings provide opportunities for visitors to educate themselves about the refuge and its residents. Hunting is allowed.

Exploring The City

By the end of the day, most people will be tired and ready to put their feet up, and what better a place to do that than at a local wine cellar. It is located in a restored historical building, and guests can enjoy cheese and dessert plates to accompany the wine samplings. Those who still have some energy can try out a local golf course for nine or 18 holes. If it's a split vote, there is a clubhouse where the non-golfers can watch and relax. Don't forget to take your Mount Blanchard motorhome rental for a spin out on the highways. RV vacations can be addictive, and after you have driven one, you will understand why.

One Irish pub has a relaxing and fun atmosphere to accompany the great food; there are TVs, and the selection of tap beers is changed regularly. Portions are large and guests dining here should try the seafood chowder; those wishing for a heavier meal can try the Guinness Chicken (seared chicken breast with charbroiled mushrooms and Guinness onion gravy). When you can't eat another bite, have your leftovers wrapped up and take them home to your Mount Blanchard luxury RV rental for a late-night snack. Nothing says vacation like delicious food enjoyed under a blanket of stars.
