Millington is a village in Tuscola County, Michigan with an economy based on the manufacturing and agriculture industries. It is also widely seen as a bedroom community for Flint and Saginaw. It was first settled in 1850 and grew slowly until being platted in 1860 and named Lanesville (it had been locally known as Podunk until then). People began referring to it as Millington around 1866 (after the nearby Millington Creek), and it was officially platted and renamed Millington in 1872; it was incorporated as a village in 1877. The community celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2004 under the theme “Where the Past and Present Meet.”

Book an RV in Tuscola County, and you can choose from amongst a fleet of RV vehicles. Those coming here should try to maximize their experience by visiting some other local communities. Port Sanilac is a scuba diving mecca due to its designated shipwreck preserve (Sanilac Shores Underwater Preserve). Durand has a strong historical connection to railroads, currently servicing the Canadian National Railroad, Huron & Eastern Railway, and Great Lakes Central Railroad; it is also a stop on the Amtrak's Blue Water Route. Your Millington travel trailer rental is how you will discover and experience this vast area in comfort.

The Great Outdoors

Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge is a well-known outdoor recreational area as well as an undeveloped bird sanctuary. The refuge is a habitat and sanctuary for migratory birds and endangered mammal and plant species. The area is nestled between urban and agricultural areas and consists of marshes, rivers, and floodplain forest. Visitors can fish and hunt, as well as go hiking and observe the wildlife, either on foot or from the refuge's scenic autoroute.

Genesee Recreation Area is a cultivated park with an active railroad, an arboretum, and a lake where guests can sit and relax on park benches enjoying the view. It has numerous trails that are not too difficult for most people; people can hike and observe the wildlife that includes bald eagles nesting in the trees or soaring overhead. The trails lead to a scenic waterfall.

For-Mar Nature Preserve & Arboretum is a former dairy farm that was reclaimed in 1970 with meadows, ponds, and tree stands. Guests can take a slow walk through the majestic gardens or head out on the miles of available trails. There is a visitor center with exhibits and live animals; some areas are wheelchair accessible.

Genesee-Otter Lake Campgrounds is a family owned and operated RV park that has been in the same family for more than 25 years. The park is located on the shores of a lake and nestled amongst majestic oak and maple tree stands; it has an on-site store, restrooms and showers, laundry facilities and a dump station. Individual sites have electric and water hookups for the Millington motorhome rental, picnic tables and fire rings, and can be rented by the day, week, or season (the park is open from approximately May to October).

Exploring The City

The best place to begin your adventure in Millington is with the Southern Links Trailway, a paved hiking and cycling trail that runs from Millington to Columbiaville. It has restrooms at either end and a convenience store and bike shop at roughly the midway point. It is well maintained with equal amounts of open sky and shade and scenic views of the lake. There is a local antique shop and also a community center that hosts a variety of social activities, and a second urban park just outside of the city limits. Millington is not large, providing a good opportunity to take a walking tour; or you can explore it in your Millington campervan rental.

When its time for dinner, Millington has a good supply of reasonably priced eateries, most of them locally owned and operated. One local family restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and weekend brunches, and it can handle takeout orders. Those looking for an all-day breakfast have hit the mother lode and should try the biscuits and gravy. Those checking in for dinner should try the fish dinner with homemade coleslaw. If the dining area is packed, grab some takeout and head back to your Millington luxury RV rental for a relaxed dinner in your favorite lawn chair, under an open sky. This is vacation living at its best.
