Millbury is located in Wood County, Ohio and is a small town in Lake township, just south of the city of Toledo. It was first established around 1864 and was named after the town of Millbury in Massachusetts.

The terrain is very flat here, as the town is on the low-lying land along the banks of the Maumee River estuary. Just to the north is the Maumee Bay State Park and a little way east is Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge, both situated on the banks of Lake Erie.

An RV rental in Millbury will put you in the perfect location to discover the shoreline and lakeside towns and cities of Lake Erie, including Cleveland.

Discover Millbury

The Great Outdoors

As it’s so close, start with Lake Erie, one of the five Great Lakes of Northern America. The nearest point for you to start your adventure in your RV rental from Millbury, OH is Maumee Bay. The area has been designated as a state park and covers some 1,450 acres. It is known as one of the best places in the United States for bird watching with over 300 species of bird having been recorded here. The area is also very popular as a vacation destination, with many golf courses and resorts close by.

Just along Lake Erie shore to the east is Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge covers almost 6,500 acres of wetland, grassland, and wood along the edge of Lake Erie. If you are lucky, you can see Bald eagles, Warblers, and Dunlin at the refuge, but even if the birds are being elusive, it is a wonderful area to explore.

Just about a mile north for you to cruise to when you rent an RV in Millbury is Cedar Creeks Preserve. The area has been established to preserve the remains of Black Swamp Woods, that covered around 1,500 square miles. The swamp has been drained to provide farmland and make travel in the area easier, but conservationists are working to restore areas of the old swamp. This 42-acre section has several short trails that allow visitors to see how the woods would have looked many years ago.

RV Parks

The Campground at Maumee Bay State Park offers 250 individual sites that all offer electrical hook-up with water and wash-rooms close by, perfect for your luxury RV rental from Millbury. All sites allow you to bring your pets with you and the sites can be easily booked online via the Ohio State Parks website. Once on the site, you are spoiled for choice when it comes to facilities. For swimming there is a dedicated beach on the shore of Lake Erie, there are a golf course and driving range, walking trails, a playground, and a nature trail. Boats and bicycles are available for hire, and regular events are arranged in the amphitheater.

Just across the Maumee River from the town of Grand Rapids and easily reached when you rent a motorhome in Millbury is the Campfire RV Park. The site is next to a well stocked 3-acre fishing pond that can also be used for boating in the on-site paddle boats. There are 145 full hook-up sites available along with 15 primitive sites if you prefer to be off-grid. On the campsite, you’ll find plenty of activities to keep the kids entertained, including a play center, basketball, and volleyball.

Exploring the City

Just a few miles south-east, point your camper rental from Millbury towards Schedel Arboretum & Gardens. The gardens were the idea of Joe and Marie Schedel, who owned the property for more than 50 years and wanted to share their love of nature. Together they traveled to over 120 countries and kept their collection in the Manor House, which can still be visited today. The gardens cover 17 acres, and along with the thousands of annual plants, there are themed gardens, such as the Japanese, Tropical and Rose Gardens.

The Imagination Station in Toledo makes for an interesting day out. The many interactive exhibits are aimed at making science fun as well as educational. With ten different “learning worlds," each containing many hands-on exhibits, such as the waterworks, energy factory and IDEA Lab, there is plenty to keep you busy.

Every July the Toledo Lighthouse Waterfront Festival is held to raise funds for the lighthouse preservation society. During the festival, you can enjoy live music, story-telling about the history of the lighthouse, an arts and crafts market, and boat rides around the lighthouse. A selection of local foods will be available and children's activities to keep the little ones occupied. It’s a real family event that lasts for 3 days. Load up the family and head out for an amazing memory, making vacation!
