Welcome to Delaware — the first state established in America. Middletown is a small town located in northern Delaware about half an hour's drive away from the banks of the Delaware River. Because of its relative distance from a navigable waterway, when Middletown was first founded, this early crossroads town was a tavern stop. People trying to reach the Chesapeake Bay from the Atlantic Ocean had to pass through Middletown before the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal were built. Today, Middletown remains a humble suburban town. Though there is not much to do in the area in regards to entertainment, there are a lot of parks and green spaces in and around Middletown. It’s also only about a 30-minute drive away from Dover, Delaware’s capital city.

The Great Outdoors

Lums Pond State Park in Bear surrounds the largest freshwater pond in Delaware. Covering 200 acres, the park’s pond allures anglers, kayakers, and boaters from all around the state. Apart from water recreation, the park has several miles of hiking trails as well as two trails on which bikes and horses are permitted. For the more adventurous in heart, the nearby zip line course features Tarzan swings, tree-top crossings, rope ladders, and four zip lines which cross over the pond.

Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge is another place to keep in mind if you decide to reserve an RV trailer rental in Middletown. Situated on the banks of the Delaware River in Smyrna, the wildlife refuge preserves one of the largest remaining stretches of tidal salt marsh in the mid-Atlantic area. Home to an abundance of wildlife, the refuge serves as protection for a variety of waterfowl and shorebirds and attracts birders from across the country. Mammals such as whitetail deer also call this beautiful place home.

White Clay Creek State Park in Newark, Delaware is as historic as it is scenic. Sparkling streams meander through dense forests leading hikers to historic sites and scenic overlooks from which visitors can appreciate lush valleys and spectacular rock outcroppings. Covering approximately 3,300 acres, the park has over 37 miles of multi-purpose trails and is home to parts of the boundary line made famous by Mason and Dixon.
