The sleepy waterfront town of Medina is where some of the most opulent homes in the Seattle area can be found. The town’s inhabitants include Microsoft bigwigs, tech entrepreneurs and magnates, and perhaps most famous of them all: Jeff Bezos of Amazon and Microsoft founder Bill Gates. Visitors enter the town from Seattle using the Evergreen Point Floating Bridge. Measuring 7,708 feet in length, it is the longest floating bridge in the world. The city has a spectacular view of Seattle, Lake Washington, and the surrounding area.

Almost all of the lakefront houses in Medina have a dock and a private beach. The town is filled with evergreens, oaks, and maples. Medina was nicknamed “Tree City” by the Arbor Day Foundation in 2006.

The closest large town is Bellevue, about three miles to the southeast. Downtown Seattle is nine miles to the west, accessed by the Evergreen Point Floating Bridge. Olympic National Park is about 90 miles to the west, via the ferry. The foothills of the Cascades is roughly 30 miles to the east.

The Great Outdoors

Hitting the Lake Washington is a popular activity for both locals and visitors. Park your rental RV from Medina and hit the waters. The Kirkland Marina Dock has a public pay-as-you-go boat launch and reasonable moorage fees. Fishermen are able to cast lines from a handful of public docks and along any of the public waterfront parks, such as Waverly Park, Marina Park, or the Old Ship Museum Park in Kirkland. The lake offers a dozen different species, including Coastal Cutthroat Trout, Rainbow Trout, Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, Yellow Perch, and Black Crappie. Steelhead Trouts, Chinook, Sockeye, and Coho salmon are also common, though there are restrictions depending on the season.

For a quick break from the city scene, visit the nearby Coal Creek or Cougar Mountain Parks. Immersed under a canopy of trees without a house in sight, the park hints at the wildness that once covered this region. The parks feature many diverse habitats, such as mature second-growth forests, streams and wetlands, and cliffs, talus, and caves. Hosts of birds are regularly seen at Cougar, along with wildlife such as black bear and bobcats.

To access true wilderness, you’ll need to venture several miles farther out with your luxury motorhome from Medina. The Cascade foothills are roughly 30 miles to the east. Here, you are able to enjoy a number of fun activities like whitewater rafting, parasailing, off-roading, and even go panning for gold.

Some 100 miles to the west, you’ll gain access to the world-famous Olympic National Park. Encompassing 1,500 square miles, there is a dizzying array of choices in activities ranging from fishing to stargazing. The park has three distinct ecosystems: subalpine forest, temperate forest (rainforest), and marine (the Pacific shore/ocean).

RV Parks

When you rent an RV in Medina, you’ll need someplace to park for a few days while you explore the city. Trailer Inn RV Parks in Bellevue is conveniently located close to the city. It offers 15/30/50 amps for your RV, free cable and a WiFi hotspot. Rigs up to 60 feet may be accommodated. Pet-friendly, the park also offers amenities like a sauna and laundry facilities.

Alternatively, the Issaquah Village RV Park, which is a little farther away, has full hookups for your RV, free WiFi and cable, and wide lots for slide-outs.

Sometimes you’ll need to park somewhere overnight in a pinch. There are two Walmarts under a five miles’ radius. Just ask the store manager for permission before you set up for the night. The Medina Grocery and Deli, a garden nursery, and a post office are the only sources of commercial activity in this town. Should you desire to do some shopping while in the area, you will need to venture down to nearby Bellevue.

Exploring the City

The best-known street in Medina is Evergreen Point Road. Because the road runs along the water, it is a who's who of luxury real estate. Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, and several Microsoft executives live on the street.

For the golfing aficionados, the Overlake Country Club is, unfortunately, restricted to members only, and guests are permitted only if accompanied by a member. Fortunately, there are a few golf courses that welcome the public, like the Bellevue Golf Course and Jefferson Park Golf Course.

Stroll through the Washington Park Arboretum and Japanese Garden, enjoy the rare trees and blooms that horticulturists lovingly nourish. Don’t forget to stop at the famous Space Needle and Gasworks Park, which are popular destinations for both the locals and tourists. The Gasworks is a former site of an oil plant and is now a 20-acre park with picnic facilities and dramatic city views.

There are countless museums in Seattle and its outskirts, and you’re bound to find something that fits your interests. Start close to Medina and visit the Bellevue Arts Museum, which showcases both local and international artists. Their exhibitions and galleries change on a regular basis; check online for the schedule. Alternatively, visit the Kidsquest Children’s Museum, which features interactive educational exhibits. It’s a great place for kids to explore and exercise their imagination.

Indulge in the “Seattle Weird” and search for famous landmarks like the Fremont Troll, the Giant Shoe Museum, the Gum Wall, Jimi Hendrix Statue, Bruce Lee’s gravesite, and explore the underground city. And go on a paranormal ghost tour, too!

Don’t forget to stop at the Pike Place Market and watch the fishmongers toss fish. Park your Medina camper rental nearby and walk over to enjoy the unique shops located on the lower levels.

If it's a taste of the cool Washington air you are seeking, consider a camper rental in Medina. Enjoy the local cuisine, take in the beautiful landscape, and watch a sunset. Rent an RV in Medina, WA, and check out The Evergreen State!
