Situated part way between Memphis and Little Rock, McCrory is a small city in the east of Arkansas. It originated in the mid-19th century near a settlement known as Jennie’s Colony when the adjacent area of land was purchased by Cyrus G. McCrory. The St. Louis, Iron Mountain & Southern Railroad arrived in 1886, with the town of McCrory officially established during the same year.

Today, McCrory is a laid-back destination to rent an RV while exploring the wildlife refuges and national forests of east Arkansas. There are a couple of RV parks within proximity and plenty of family-friendly attractions to discover in both Memphis and Little Rock.

Discover McCrory

The Great Outdoors

Book a motorhome rental in McCrory and make the short drive west to the Henry Gray Hurricane Lake WMA, which sprawls across 17,000 acres. It’s a popular hunting destination for deer, quail, and rabbit, as well as being carved by rivers and wetlands that are ideal for fishing. Its western border connects with the Bald Knob Refuge, a 15,000-acre preserve that serves as a wintering home for migrating waterfowl.

Around 90 minutes' drive south of McCrory is the White River National Wildlife Refuge, a Wetland of International Importance that encompasses the lower 100 miles of the White River and a section of the Arkansas Post Canal. It provides a habitat for the largest concentration of wintering mallard ducks along the Mississippi Flyway, as well as large numbers of snow and Canada geese. Keep your eyes peeled for black bears and bald eagle nests while exploring the trails, as well as some of the last remaining ivory-billed woodpeckers in the world.

Just to the east of the White River National Wildlife Refuge is the St. Francis National Forest, which sprawls across Crowley’s Ridge and the flatlands along the Mississippi and St. Francis Rivers. It features some of the finest bottomland hardwoods in the United States, which can be explored on either the Crowley's Ridge National or Great River Road Scenic Byways. St. Francis National Forest is particularly renowned as a fishing destination, with largemouth bass, crappie, and channel catfish inhabiting the Bear Creek Reservoir and Storm Creek Lake.

RV Parks

Pick up your RV rental in McCrory and head to the Shady Oaks RV Mobile Home Park in Bald Knob. While predominantly a long-term RV park, it has a handful of full hookup sites available for overnight visitors with 30 or 50 amp service and an on-site laundry facility where you can catch up on your washing.

Also nearby is the Red River RV Park in Judsonia, with a good selection of pull-through sites offering full hookups. It’s both pet and big rig-friendly, with Wi-Fi also available throughout the park.

You can also make the 30-minute drive into Wynne where there’s a Walmart where you may be able to set up camp with the McCrory travel trailer rental for a night or two with the manager’s permission.

Exploring the City

Park your RV rental near McCrory and enjoy a stroll through the Commercial District, which is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It’s clustered with early-20th-century architecture and extends along Edmonds Avenue between 3rd Street and the railroad tracks. Admire the mid-century McCrory Municipal Building and the elegant Ken Theater, as well as the U.S. Post Office building that dates to 1965.

McCrory makes a good base for visiting Memphis, which lies just over an hour’s drive to the east. It’s famously home to Elvis Presley’s “Graceland” mansion, as well as the legendary Sun Studio where B.B. King and Johnny Cash both recorded albums. Aside from exploring the Rock 'n' Soul Museum and Blues Hall of Fame, you can also head to the National Civil Rights Museum that encompasses the Lorraine Motel where Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated.

Alternatively, spend a day in the capital of Arkansas, Little Rock. See a replica of the Oval Office at the William J. Clinton Presidential Library and Museum or admire the impressive collection of drawings at the Arkansas Arts Center. If you want to delve into the history of Arkansas, head to the Old State House Museum, which occupies an elegant 19th-century Greek Revival building near the banks of the Arkansas River. If you’re traveling with kids, don’t miss a visit to the Museum of Discovery or spend a day coming face-to-face with more than 200 different species at the Little Rock Zoo.

McCrory is home to a supermarket where you can pick up groceries, as well as a couple of eateries if you want to dine out. There’s also a gas station if you need to fill up your campervan rental in McCrory.
