McClellan Park is a bit tricky to describe, as it is a census-designated place with very few residents to speak of. McClellan Park was formerly known as McClellan Air Force Base from 1935 until its closure in 2001. McClellan Park is now a large-scale corporate community park with tons of room for business offices and company operations.

McClellan Park is adjacent to and shares its name with Sacramento McClellan Airport, one of the capital city’s two major airports. McClellan Park is less than ten miles north of Sacramento, making it an accessible and easy place to reach from Interstate 80.

You can book an RV in McClellan Park, but there isn’t so much to do or see within the town itself aside from a museum or two. However, it is an exceptional place to rent an RV due to its centralized location in the heart of Northern California, lending itself to memorable road trips and ample opportunity to interact with the natural beauty the Golden State has come to be known for.

Discover McClellan Park

Explore the Outdoors

It is certainly a difficult task to find a few parks and recreation areas to explore while you rent an RV for vacation, as there are so many wonderful places to choose from in the north of California. Take Folsom Lake, for example, a large lake northeast of Sacramento with over 75 miles of shoreline and a bevy of campgrounds and recreation areas. You could rent an RV in McClellan Park and spend your entire trip at Folsom Lake and never once feel as though you have missed out on other adventures. Folsom Lake State Recreation is a cherished camping area that you can stay at with your McClellan Park camper rental and is known as one of the most visited parks in the state of California. Lake Oroville to the north is very similar to Folsom Lake, surrounded by a handful of individual recreation areas. Foreman Creek, Potters Ravine, Craig, and Loafer Creek are a few of the recreation areas that can be enjoyed on the shores of Lake Oroville, and all four have delightful campgrounds too. Guests can go hiking, swimming, mountain biking, or fishing for salmon and bass in one of the region’s best fishing lakes. There are two high powered telescopes for park guests to use at nighttime, as well as a fun museum that offers information and insight into the natural history of Lake Oroville and beyond.

El Dorado National Forest and Tahoe National Forest are two of the many federally maintained forest areas of eastern California, covering almost the entirety of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Both forests combined make up over one and a half million acres of pristine evergreen forests and unreal scenery. Camping out in your McClellan RV rental is a breeze in these forests, with countless campgrounds and natural camping areas to choose from, as well as hundreds of miles of footpaths and dirt roads. A wealth of old-growth trees dot the ancient mountain peaks of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and the gorgeous Lake Tahoe is shared between the two forest parks. The lake is one of the most famous lakes in the country, as well as one of the clearest and deepest. Summer or winter, it makes no difference, these forests are great for every sort of outdoor recreation you can imagine, especially skiing and snowboarding on the snowy mountains near the lake.

Around Town

McClellan Park is not really a conventional town. This retired Air Force base is a lovely place to rent an RV because of its ideally situated location just outside of Sacramento, the state of California’s capital. One of the only noteworthy attractions found in McClellan Park is the Aerospace Museum of California, a fabulous institution dedicated to educating the general public. Lots of topics are covered at this wonderful museum, like the solar system, the first airplanes, and more. There is even a professional flight simulator on sight that guests can try their hand at.

The museum was founded in 1885 and features an impressive collection from all around the world.
