Manchester, PA, which was originally named Liverpool, was formed in 1814, and later officially established as a town in 1869 (and renamed). The village was raided by the 17th Virginia Cavalry for supplies and replenishments during the infamous Gettysburg battle. Manchester’s central location makes it an ideal place to explore the countryside. Several area attractions are within an hour’s drive.

The closest large town is York, under 10 miles to the south. To the north, Harrisburg is a little over 20 miles. Gettysburg is about 35 miles southwest, and Lancaster is a little over 30 miles to the east.

The Great Outdoors

When you rent a RV in Manchester, you’ll likely wish to enjoy the outdoors and an array of recreational activities in the area. Gifford Pinchot State Park is a fair-sized park very close to the city and is RV-friendly. It’s a butterfly haven, and swallowtails butterflies are abundant in this park during the summer months. There are several miles of hiking trails, and fisherman are able to catch a few different species of bass and bluegills in the lake. Fishing tournaments are regularly held in this park, and a couple spans two to four months. If you fancy yourself an expert fisherman, join in!

Roundtop Mountain Resort is also close by. It’s a great place to learn the basics of skiing and, for the brave and daring, there are a couple black diamond trails. Note: the mountain is open to skiing only in winters. During the summer months, the mountain is used for camps and paintball fun.

Seeking solitude and quiet? Hop into your camper rental from Manchester and head west to the Michaux State Forest, one of the largest parks in south-central Pennsylvania. Adventure is yours and at your fingertips. Choose from a variety of recreational activities like primitive camping, hiking, horseback riding, bicycling, and snowmobiling. There are several small lakes and ponds peppered throughout its borders, and over 130 miles of trails wind through mature woods. RV camping is allowed, though you must obtain a free permit from the ranger.

RV Park

When you rent a Manchester motorhome, you’ll need someplace to put down stakes during your outdoor adventure. Cedar Lake Family Campgrounds is just a few minutes away. The large, private campground offers amenities like full hookups for your RV, a large seven-acre pond stocked with fish for fishing, live bands, a drive-in theater, and more.

If you seek a more rustic setting, both Gifford Pinchot and Michaux parks allow RV camping, though space can be limited, especially at Gifford Pinchot during the summer months.

Exploring the City

Manchester’s location makes it an ideal place to explore a number of nearby spots, like Gettysburg, Harrisburg, York, and Lancaster. If you’re up for a long drive, swing by Hershey in your luxury motorhome rental from Manchester. As you roll into town, you’ll be greeted by the smell of chocolate wafting through the air from the nearby factories, and dozens of confectioneries lining the main street. In wintertime, the whole town is decorated with festive streamers, themed chocolate decorations, and lights. The small adventure park showcases dozens of state-of-art roller coaster rides that rivals the top adventure parks in the country.

There’s nothing like sun-warmed fruits, freshly picked! There are several “u-pick” farms in the area. A well-known one is Brown’s Orchards in Loganville. Depending on the season and weather, pick baskets of a variety of fruits, such as strawberries, cherries, raspberries, apples, and more. Brown's Orchards has a small restaurant and wine-tasting store on site, too.

York is home to the Factory Tour Capital of the World, which showcases Harley-Davidson motorcycles, Snyder’s of Hanover’s pretzels, and Martin’s Snacks. Across the river, join tours of the Lancaster countryside and learn about the Amish communities that thrive in the area. Though most are private and reclusive, a few have opened their doors to the public. Be sure to grab the original Whoopie Pie while you’re there, too!

Explore different pubs along the Susquehanna Ale Trail, which features up-and-coming microbreweries in the York region, try new beers, and learn about how beer are made.

Visit the historic Gettysburg Park and learn about President Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address and the events of one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. Wrap up your day by going on a scenic drive through the towns dotting the landscape. Many homes in the area are historic, dating back to the founding of this nation.

If it's a taste of Pennsylvania idyllic farm scenery, and green rolling hills you are seeking, consider a travel trailer rental in Manchester. Enjoy learning about the culture, strolling through Gettysburg Park, watching a sunrise, and taking in the superb landscape. Rent an RV in Manchester, PA and go exploring!
