The little town of Leslie, Michigan sits almost precisely in the center of the area commonly referred to as Mid-Michigan. Most visitors to the Leslie area come to get away from it all and experience the joy of small town in living in the Midwest.

When you book an RV in Leslie, you'll have the freedom to go wherever you please. The town's central location means that it’s only a short drive to the state capital of Lansing, the state’s largest city of Detroit, and Ann Arbor, the home of the University of Michigan. Leslie is right in the middle of it all.

The Great Outdoors

The gently rolling hills and numerous lakes just outside of Leslie also make this the perfect vacation destination for outdoor enthusiasts. Nearby Pickney Recreation Area and Waterloo State Recreation Area are some of the best places to visit if you want to spend some time in nature. Both offer lakes and dozens of miles of trail to explore on foot. While not quite as grand as what you’d discover on the shores of the Great Lakes, the beaches you'll find at these spots are some of the closest to Leslie.

However, for something a bit closer to town, you can make a stop at Leslie’s municipal park, Russell Park, which sits on its northern edge. It features a playground and some shaded green space that would be perfect for a family picnic. It’s also just a short walk from the downtown area, so it’s a good place to relax once you’ve had enough souvenir hunting for the day.

Another great hangout spot is The Cascades near the town of Jackson. The green space has a small fountain at its center in the shape of a waterfall that is beautifully lit at night. During the day, kids can enjoy the splash park, which can be a great relief on a balmy Michigan summer day.

RV Parks

Leslie’s location in the Mid-Michigan region is fantastic for RV campers, as towns are spread far enough apart that you won’t feel like you’re vacationing in an urban jungle, but popular enough with tourists that there are a variety of places to stay. One of the closest options for your camper rental from Leslie is the Wheel Inn Campground just outside of town. Their sites have water and electrical hookups, a playground area, a pond for swimming, and a 3D archery shooting range. It’s also far enough from the main road that you shouldn't have to worry about traffic or noise during your stay.

Hideaway RV Resort, near the town of Jackson, could also be a good option for the motorhome rental near Leslie. All of their sites come with full hookups, but their main draw is the nearby lake that offers kayak and paddleboat rentals. If you’d prefer to spend your vacation in nature, this could be a nice RV park for you.

If you don’t mind staying a little farther from town, there are quite a few campgrounds surrounding nearby Portage Lake including Vining Campground, Portage Lake Campground, and Oaks Campground. Each of them has hookups for your Leslie RV rental along with recreational facilities for enjoying the lake and adjacent forestlands.

Exploring the City

Most of Leslie’s attractions would be described as subtle, nothing to be overly hyped, but savored for the quiet beauty emanating from this small town. One of the more popular activities is to visit some of the nearby wineries. While California often gets all the credit when it comes to America’s vineyards, Michigan has some fairly impressive ones of its own, with a unique taste stemming from its colder climate and shorter growing season.

However, history buffs will surely want to check out the Mason Historical Museum when they rent an RV here. It’s a rather small collection, but it does an excellent job of telling the story of Mid-Michigan’s residents throughout the past couple hundred years.

If you're seeking some unique experiences during your vacation, make a trip to Cell Block 7 in Jackson to find out what it's like to be locked up with a tour of the former Michigan State Prison. Tour guides will let you in on the secrets of life on the inside along with some of the more surprising details of what it took to survive in a place like this.

Dining options in Leslie can be somewhat limited as it mostly consists of the standard fare of pizza, diners, and pub grub. There are a couple of food trucks worth checking out if they’re open during your stay in Leslie though. If you’re thinking of cooking for yourself, there’s a small grocery store near the center of town, but for a bigger selection, you’ll need to head to a larger city like Lansing or Ann Arbor. There are also a few convenience stores in town, and most of the large truck stops are located south of town on Interstate 94. If you need to empty your tanks or fuel up your travel trailer rental in Leslie, this is the place to do it.
