Along the southern portion of Florida, close to Cape Coral and Fort Myers, you will find Lehigh Acres. When you book an RV in Lehigh Acres, you can not only find some wonderful nature, but you’ll be close to the clear waters of the Gulf of Mexico, and the northern portion of Everglades National Park.

Lehigh Acres was started in the mid-1950s by Chicago businessman Lee Ratner, who bought 18,000 acres in Lee County, Florida. Today, this mid-size city has lots to see and do, with a nice balance of natural landscape and urban attractions.

Not too far to the east is Okaloacoochee Slough State Forest near Immokalee and just to the north of Lehigh Acres is Babcock Ranch Preserve near Fort Myers. If you cruise across Route 80 and 27, you will end up in West Palm Beach, north of Fort Lauderdale and, ultimately, Miami.

When you rent an RV in Lehigh Acres, you can head 170 miles southeast to pick up US-1 in Key Largo and make your way down through the Florida Keys to Key West.

The Great Outdoors

When you’re looking to explore the surrounding area with your luxury RV rental in Lehigh Acres, check out Harns Marsh. This is a wonderful place to walk around and see wildlife just about any time of the year. Winter seems to be the best time to visit because of the intense heat during the summer months. Here, you will likely be able to spot a wide range of birds, including egrets, herons, ibis, sandhill cranes, snail kites, and even ducks. You may also spot some interesting snakes, raccoons, and, if you’re lucky, other unique wildlife you may not have in your hometown.

Manatee Park is over in Fort Myers, which is a short drive away from Lehigh Acres. Here, you will see manatees, including adults and young ones, swimming in the canal. You have to bring along some patience because they often spend much of the time underwater, but they always have to come up and surface for air.

RV Parks

While there aren’t many RV parks in town, there are plenty of options around the area where you can set up camp with the motorhome rental near Lehigh Acres. Palm and Pines RV Park offers sites with pull-through and big rig access, and full hookups, including 30 and 50 amp electric.

W.P. Franklin North COE is located in Alva, Florida. Electric and water hookups are available, and there are restrooms, showers, and laundry facilities on site.

Koreshan State Park could be another decent place to park the RV rental near Lehigh Acres. The park is located in Estero and offers sites with water and electrical hookups. Pets are allowed, and there is a playground and access to recreational trails near the campground. Restrooms and shower facilities are also on site.

Exploring the City

You will certainly find some things to do and enjoy in and around Lehigh Acres, but because of the proximity to Fort Myers and Cape Coral, you may have greater options just outside this small city. In the city itself, though, you can enjoy a round of golf at one of the golf courses or head to Veterans Memorial Park for some urban outdoor recreation.

The local brewery could also be something you might want to check out when you have a motorhome rental in Lehigh Acres. Visitors of all ages (and even pets) can find something to enjoy here. There is something special going on almost every night, and sometimes they have a food truck rally, which can be a great deal of fun.

Over in Fort Myers is JetBlue Park. It is a minor-league ballpark that is also home to the Boston Red Sox during spring training. If you’re in the area with Lehigh Acres motorhome rental in spring, head over to the ballpark and make sure you find a seat in the shade. You can kick back and take in a few innings while enjoying the gentle ocean breezes flowing in from the Gulf.

While in Fort Myers with the Lehigh Acres camper rental, head over to the Edison and Ford Winter Estates to see the historic winter homes of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford. Take a trip back in time and tour the on-site museum, or trek through the lush botanical gardens that cover the grounds. From here you can take in some of the gorgeous city scenery from a unique vantage point by embarking on a cruise on the Caloosahatchee River.
