Lecanto is a census-designated place in Citrus County, Florida, as well as an unincorporated community. Several government departments maintain offices in Lecanto, such as the Citrus County Sheriff's office and the College of Central Florida's Citrus County campus. There are an additional six colleges and universities located either in or near Lecanto, such as Rasmussen College-Florida, the University of Florida, and others. Despite this, the city maintains a rural feel. A large portion of the residents are retired homeowners.
Book an RV in Citrus County and you are ready to explore the diverse landscape that is Florida. Williston is home to two famous dive springs: Devil's Den and Blue Grotto. Ocala is named after a 16th-century village, Ocale or Ocali, which in the village's indigenous language meant “Big Hammock”. Leesburg prides itself on social activities and groups, such as the local adult anime club. Zephyrhills was established in 1910 as a potential home for Civil War veterans; the city holds its annual Founders Day celebration in March. Tarpon Springs was named after the local fish that would leap out of the water and spray anyone nearby (although the fish were mullet, not tarpon). Your Lecanto travel trailer rental is your connection to the geography and the history of Florida.
Goethe State Forest is a multi-usage forest preserve providing protection for plant and animal species, outdoor recreation, and limited timber production. The forest largely consists of dome, sandhill, and basic swamps, and longleaf pine flatwood stands. Its preservation has helped maintain a number of endangered species like Florida black bears, red-cockaded woodpeckers and more. Visitors to the park can enjoy hiking, cycling, and picnicking for starters; fishing and hunting is allowed with the proper permits.
Ocala National Forest is the site of the largest contiguous sand pine scrub forest in the world. The park is open year-round and has hundreds of lakes, rivers, and springs. Visitors can swim and snorkel in the water bodies or hike or horseback ride on designated trails. Some trails in the park are specifically for off-road motorized vehicles. Keep your Lecanto camper rental close by and you can finish your hike with a gourmet lunch in comfortable surroundings.
Lake George Conservation Area is a mixture of pine flatwoods and mixed hardwood swamps. In addition to protecting and enhancing the wetland and upland habitats, it provides a corridor alongside Lake George and St. Johns River which the wildlife can use to move about freely. Park management would like to remind you that fox squirrels and raccoons can appear to be “cute” while stealing your unguarded food, but Florida black bears: not so much. They ask that you practice caution along with conservation while enjoying the park.

One of the state trails traverses three counties and is paved in some sections; however, the pavement will not usually discourage the deer and other wildlife from enjoying some people watching. A few golf courses may catch your attention (it is always a good time to sneak in a round or two) and one tour company offers river tours with swimming and snorkeling options. In the midst of all this fun, don't forget your Lecanto motorhome rental which is perfect for breezing along the local highways for some impromptu adventure.
