Lanham, Maryland is a small, unincorporated community nestled in the heart of Prince George’s County. The end of the Washington Metro’s Orange Line is at the New Carrollton Station near Lanham. There is an abundance of rich history in this region of the country and being barely more than a stone’s throw away from Washington, DC, anyone looking for RV rentals in Prince George’s County is not only going to have a great selection and various options, but amazing sites to explore.

One could spend weeks in a camper rental in Lanham visiting the various sites, state parks, forests, and national monuments and still not get to see them all. It is an amazing part of the country, and Lanham is a short drive away from Patuxent Research Refuge near Bowie. If you’re willing to drive a couple of hours to the west, beyond downtown DC, you can visit Shenandoah National Park in Virginia. Just a bit beyond that, you can also visit the George Washington National Forest and Jefferson National Forest.

A bit closer to Lanham is Allen Pond Park. Some call this the “best park in Bowie.” The park offers a small pond and some simple, leisurely paths, allowing visitors to walk around the area. In the middle of the pond is a small island that can be reached by a small walkway or you can simply sit down and look out over the rest of the park. Greenbelt Park does not offer any hookup service, but they do allow pets. It is positioned just 10 miles from downtown DC. You’ll also be just a couple of miles from the closest Metro train station, which can be a more convenient way to visit downtown Washington, DC.

Cherry Hill Park is located in College Park, Maryland and does offer full hookup service and numerous amenities. They have a camp store for basic supplies, plus restrooms, showers, and laundry facilities too. They have a rec room, a playground for the kids, and you can enjoy fishing if you wish. There are pull-through sites, and big rigs should have no problem getting in and out of here.

Exploring the City

You won’t have a shortage of options available to you when it comes to exploring Lanham and the surrounding area. You might want to check out the National Wildlife Visitor Center in Laurel. It is the largest science and environmental education center in the Department of the Interior. Many visitors are surprised by this hidden gem. It has a wildlife center that offers some amazing exhibits, and you can even take a nice stroll down by the water along any number of gorgeous nature trails.

If you have kids or enjoy thrill parks, you can check out Six Flags America right in Bowie. They have a water park, intense roller coasters, and plenty of other rides for children of all ages. When you have a Lanham motorhome rental, you’ll have plenty of parking space available at this particular theme park.

The Bowie Railroad Museum can be a wonderful excursion that lets you step back in time. It’s a small museum and a one-train car, but it offers some great history about the station and community, and you may take a trip down memory lane with some of the items you see here.
