Nicknamed the “Gem of Florida,” the City of Lake Helen is located at roughly the halfway point between Daytona Beach and Orlando. The area is well wooded with stately Oaks and elms adorned by trailing Spanish mosses.

Lake Helen was founded in 1888 by Henry DeLand, who named the fledgling town after his daughter. The town was originally a premier destination for the wealthy visitors desperate to escape the harsh New England winters. After a devastating freeze wiped out much of the local crops in late 1800s, the town never quite recovered, and to this day, it remains a hidden gem of Florida.

Discover Lake Helen

The Great Outdoors

Lake Helen is a prime spot to book an RV in Volusia County. Secluded and quiet, it’s not far from a number of terrific destinations and parks with plenty of outdoor activities. The closest and largest park is Ocala National Forest. Ocala has 600 lakes and springs for swimming, snorkeling and diving year round, and several miles of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. There are a number of parking for rental RVs and campers in the park, making it easy for you to bring your own canoes, kayak, or other water toys.

If you’d rather hit the beach, Daytona Beach, home to the famous Daytona 500 NASCAR racetrack, is a mere 30 minutes drive north. Portions of the beach permit vehicles. How often do you get to drive on a beach?

A few extra minutes of driving time will take you to the Canaveral National Seashore and Cape Canaveral, where you can visit the Kennedy Space Center and the site of NASA rocket launches. You might luck out and eat lunch with one of NASA’s astronauts. The Canaveral Seashore is also a prime fishing and surfing spot for beginners. This section of Florida coast is great for beachside sunrises.

A little further out, the Twelve Oaks RV Resort's amenities are more sparse, with 20/30/50 amps hook-ups, a swimming pool, and a game room. However, the location is picturesque, with Spanish moss adorning enormous oaks and fragrant azaleas dotting the grounds.

Although gas stations and truck stops in the immediate area are limited, there are a number of options along the Interstate 4 that can accommodate your Lake Helen travel trailer rental.
