The idyllic coastal town of La Marque, Texas sits between Galveston and League City in east Texas. This residential community has been known by many names like Highlands, due to its proximity to Highland Creek, and Buttermilk Junction. Buttermilk Junction was the nickname of La Marque for many years because soldiers would frequently purchase buttermilk there on journeys between Houston and Galveston. The population skyrocketed once four different railways were built through town, and lots of people relocated to the beautiful gulf shores of Texas.

La Marque is now a beautiful little paradise on the outskirts of one of Texas’s best vacation destinations. People from all over the country flock to nearby Galveston to enjoy the summer swells and sunshine on the Gulf of Mexico. As a result of rising real estate prices in Galveston, the city’s sprawl has expanded inland resulting in small bedroom communities like La Marque undergoing tremendous growth. La Marque’s prized water tower stretches high above the town reminding people that they are in one of Texas’s most peaceful, small towns. When you book an RV in La Marque, you’ll have little trouble enjoying any of the region’s attractions, forests, or parks, as well as the first-class cities nearby like Houston which can be reached by taking Interstate 45.

Carbide Park has a wide variety of athletic and recreation spaces, like its basketball courts, tennis courts, soccer fields, and more. The playscape entertains younger children and there is even a playground for seniors. Mahan Park has its own athletic fields, softball diamonds, and a boat ramp for people to launch personal watercraft. Fishing on the river banks of Mahan Park is a fine way to unwind and enjoy sunset too.

Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge is worthy of a visit when you rent an RV in La Marque, and can be reached in hardly any time at all. This stunning refuge has over 40,000 acres of pristine coastline on the bay between the mainland and the barrier islands that shelter it. More than 300 types of birds have been documented and spotted by birdwatchers at this crucial habitat that serves as a resting point along their long-distance migration. San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge is farther to the south and serves a similar function. You can bring your La Marque camper rental to San Bernard to see some exotic wildlife, or bask in the sunlight on the undeveloped and undisturbed beaches.

Sam Houston National Forest can be found north of Houston and is a popular place to visit. Sam Houston National Forest is named for the former Texas governor but has been occupied by humans for nearly 12,000 years. Hiking is a popular pastime at this exquisite slice of natural beauty, with a wide array of delightful hiking loops that wind and twist their way through backcountry wilderness and a variety of different ecosystems. There are several campgrounds in the forest as well so you can easily find a place of refuge when you arrive in your La Marque motorhome rental.

Galveston Island State Park might not be the largest park but it sure is a fantastic place to spend a day or two.
