Jefferson is a city in Jackson County, Georgia, that was founded and made county seat in 1800. It was incorporated as a town in 1806, as a city in 1896, and was named after one of the founding fathers and third U.S. president Thomas Jefferson. Jackson County was founded in 1796 from a section of Franklin County and named after James Jackson, a congressman, senator, governor, and a lieutenant colonel in the Revolutionary War. Jefferson is a small town that mostly relies on agriculture; the countryside surrounding it is dotted with farms and lakes. Over its history, Jefferson has evolved from farming to textiles and now to commercial and industrial businesses, but it still maintains its small-town feeling while supporting its diverse economy.

RV rentals in Jackson County are where you will find the RV make and model that is perfectly suited to your needs. There are a few other towns and communities you should visit while you are here. Helen is a former logging town that remodeled itself to look like a Bavarian alpine town in order to boost tourism. Lavonia has a library named after philanthropist Dale Carnegie (the Lavonia-Carnegie Library) that was built in 1911 and is still in use. Madison has one of the largest historic districts in the state and was voted one of the world's 16 most picturesque villages in 2018 by Budget Travel magazine. Canton is named after the Chinese city Guangzhou (then known as Canton) because it was created with hopes of becoming a center for silk production (it didn't but became a manufacturing center instead). Your Jefferson travel trailer rental is how you will see and explore this historic area.

The Great Outdoors

Oconee National Forest is a part of the larger Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests group, providing natural resources and outdoor recreation opportunities across 26 counties in Georgia. Oconee National Forest is divided by Highways 15 and 278, plus additional smaller roads, allowing visitors to take self-guided tours of the park. This is the perfect chance to head out with your Jefferson RV rental and experience the park. Scull Shoals Experimental Forest and Historic Site are located in Oconee and are a good way to combine hiking with nature viewing. The ruins of old Scull Shoals Village are located on the banks of the Oconee River and worth taking a side trip to view.

Hard Labor Creek State Park is a cultivated outdoor recreation area with trails for hiking and horseback riding and a beach where guests can swim. The park is situated near Hard Labor Reservoir which is owned and managed separately; the reservoir is mainly to provide drinking water for local communities, so recreational activities on the reservoir are limited. The park provides picnic and camping sites (including RV camping), and cabins that can be rented. There is a playground for young children too.

Fort Yargo State Park is a cultivated outdoor recreation area situated on a lake that provides opportunities for swimming , suntanning on a sandy beach, fishing, and boating. There are boat ramps, picnic shelters, playgrounds, and a gift shop, plus much more. Overnight guests can camp or rent a cabin or a traditional yurt with all of the modern conveniences. The park has miles upon miles of trails for hiking, a wooded disc golf course, and can be booked for private parties and special events.

RV Parks

There are a multitude of RV parks and campgrounds in the area surrounding Jefferson, and some of them may have mobile homes. Your Jefferson RV trailer rental is all you will need to have an excellent vacation.

North Atlanta RV Park is a family owned and operated RV campground with plenty of tree cover and lawn area, and some open space. Sites include level gravel pads and full hookups and can be rented by the week or month. Some guests may be long term.

Exploring The City

There is a good assortment of things to do in Jefferson. If the weather decides not to cooperate (or even if it does), visitors might want to spend some time at a local museum that has historical exhibits with a built-in scare factor. The museum is dedicated to Dr. Crawford W. Long, the first physician to use anesthesia during surgery and includes other trivia from his era; there is a hayride and also a ghost tour of the museum and nearby graveyard. There are a heritage farm and a heritage village, an antique market and flea market, and a brand-name outlet mall. Those looking for an adrenaline rush can check out a light aircraft city tour; ask nicely, and the pilot (weather conditions permitting) may allow you to take a turn at flying the plane. Don't forget to take your Jefferson RV rental for a spin on the local highways, but look out; driving an RV can be addictive.

When it's time for lunch or dinner, Jefferson doesn't disappoint. Prices are inexpensive to moderately priced. There is nothing greater than discovering a venue that offers an all-day breakfast; at one local diner, they don't just offer but insist. The restaurant is open from early morning to late evening and has one menu with any kind of breakfast you could want (there are burgers, but it is primarily a breakfast outlet). Portions are a good size, and there is a '50's-style functioning jukebox. For some added entertainment, the wait staff take pride in yelling out their orders to the cook whose food presentation is perfect. Have your leftovers wrapped up and take them home to your Jefferson luxury RV rental for a late snack. This is RV living at its best.
