Jefferson, Colorado, is an unincorporated community located in Park County, Colorado. It is nestled along the western edge of the Kenosha Pass. It is a small town, but when you enjoy the best RV rental in Jefferson, you’ll be close to a wide breadth of natural wonders, national forests, and along the leading edge of the Rocky Mountains. If you plan to book an RV in Jefferson, there is plenty to enjoy.

While it is not recommended to even attempt to bring a Jefferson luxury RV rental to the top, if you have a car with you, you can check out Pikes Peak near Colorado Springs. This is one of the highest drivable peaks in the contiguous United States. It is about an hour’s drive away, possibly more, depending on what time of the year you visit here. Jefferson also sits right next to the leading edge of the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests, which contain Grays Peak, Mount Evans, and Mount Lincoln. A bit farther to the west sits White River National Forest near Glenwood Springs. You can also head a bit farther to the west to check out Grand Mesa National Forest near Grand Junction.

French Pass Trail is just one of them and it is located right in Jefferson. It is a 3.5-mile hike in one direction. There are plenty of wildflowers, especially during June and July and you can likely spot snow on the ground still in early June. Moose and other wild animals also enjoy this area, so hike with care.

The Boreas Pass Road may not be a recommended route for a Jefferson camper rental, but it is close by in Breckenridge. If you are towing a compact car along with you, you can certainly make this drive and enjoy some amazing scenery, but because of the nature of a harsh, long winter, there are going to be plenty of potholes and the rugged terrain can become jarring. A small SUV is more highly recommended, but when you cruise these trails, you can enjoy a lot of history with numerous cabins and train cars located throughout.

The Mohawk Lake Trail is also located in Breckenridge and is a relatively easy hike with gorgeous views. Because of its proximity to the city, when you rent a motorhome in Jefferson, this is a short drive away, but if you want to get to the trailhead, most cars won’t make it, so you will need a four-wheel-drive vehicle.

RV Parks

Because of the beautiful terrain and landscapes, you will certainly want to find a quality RV park when you rent an RV in this area. Lodgepole Campground is located close by in Breckenridge. It is considered a relatively small RV park, but they do have pull-through sites and pets are allowed. There are no hookups, but it is located within the Jefferson Lake Recreation Area. It can be in high demand on the weekends so reservations are recommended if you plan to stay with your Jefferson motorhome rental on a Friday or Saturday night.

Spruce Grove Campground is located in Lake George. The campground offers pull-through sites and pets are allowed. From Memorial Day until Labor Day, this park is incredibly busy, especially on the weekends.

Middlefork RV Park is located in Fairplay, Colorado and offers full hookup service, including 30 and 50 amp electric. They offer restrooms, showers, and laundry facilities and they provide pull-through sites. It is one of the only RV parks available in the area. With a larger Jefferson travel trailer rental, getting into and out of this RV park could be a bit of a challenge, though.

Exploring the City

You can venture out to Breckenridge where you will find plenty of shopping and dining opportunities as well as history within this mining town. If you are a skiing enthusiast, the well-known ski resort here offers four peaks, five terrain parks, and plenty of activities for winter sports enthusiasts.

There is a ranch located in Fairplay where you can enjoy horseback riding and some gorgeous scenery. Many of the horses here are rescues or are former wild mustangs. It offers a wonderful ride for horseback riders of all levels.
