Just southeast of the industrial magnate of Pittsburgh, the borough of Irwin, Pennsylvania has a long chapter in the history of America. Home to some of the largest coal deposits in Pennsylvania, Irwin has always been close to the industrial action. By providing resources to the neighboring Pittsburgh, Irwin grew along with the “Steel City.” With its southwestern location in Pennsylvania, you’ll have easy access to both Maryland and Ohio when you rent an RV in Irwin.

If you don’t feel like driving your Irwin RV rental around all of the time, you’re in luck. The Westmoreland Transit offers transportation around Irwin and also to nearby towns.

When you book an RV in Irwin, you can experience some of Pennsylvania’s most breathtaking landscape. You’ll pass streams, lakes, forests, rolling hills, and so much more while trekking around this picturesque land.

The Great Outdoors

At roughly 1,200 acres in size, the popular Keystone State Park is the perfect place to spend a day with the Irwin motorhome rental. With eight miles of trails, you can hike around Keystone Lake and explore the surrounding forests. If you don’t feel like hiking, you can relax on the sandy beach by the lakeshore or even go swimming in the cool waters. You can also rent kayaks and canoes and explore Keystone Lake from the water.

About 40 miles south of town is Laurel Ridge State Park, near Rockwood. With over 13,500 acres to explore, this vast forest playground is filled with exploratory opportunity. There are 70 miles of trails, making Laurel Ridge the perfect place if you want to go on an overnight hiking journey. You can even hike into the nearby Ohiopyle State Park, where you can search for the various waterfalls. Known as the gateway to the Laurel Highlands, Laurel Ridge and Ohiopyle are both comprised of rolling hills and unforgettable landscapes.

If you really want to explore more of Pennsylvania with the Irwin rental motorhome, head two hours north to the Allegheny National Forest. At just over half a million acres of land, Allegheny National Forest is a seemingly never-ending expanse of some of America’s most beautiful woodland areas. With over 200 miles of trails, you can take a hike out to an overlook at a valley below or you can go on a long, but rewarding, multi-day hike and explore more of this wilderness. Not only that, but if you’re visiting in the winter, you can travel along the trails by cross-country skiing and fully immerse yourself in a winter wonderland straight out of a painting.

RV Parks

After you’ve hiked and skied to your heart’s content, you’re going to need to find a place to park your RV rental near Irwin. Luckily enough, there are plenty of places around Irwin perfectly suited for RV camping.

Just a little south of town is the Madison/Pittsburgh SE KOA. Here, you will have access to electric hookups, restroom and shower blocks, and laundry facilities. Not only that, but you can play a game of horseshoes or bocce ball, partake in a scheduled activity, rent a canoe and go out on the lake, or even do a little fishing.

If you’re looking for some peace and quiet, the Fox Den Acres Campground is an option. This campground offers full hookups, restrooms and showers, an on-site store, a basketball court and an easy-to-access lake.

Explore the City

After you’ve returned from the wilds of western Pennsylvania with your Irwin RV rental by owner, you’ll have so much to explore and experience in and around town that you’ll quickly fill up your days.

Just to the east of town is the Bushy Run Battlefield. Here, you can learn about the early relations of the native peoples and the European settlers and why it eventually boiled down to Pontiac’s War. With historic talks almost every week and other interesting events, such as nature walks and reenactments, you can learn more about this turbulent time in early America.

If you want to enjoy a leisurely day in the park, then head to Renziehausen Park, or Renzie as it is often called. You can stroll through the rose garden or play a game of basketball or even do a little fishing. If you’re travelling in the summer, maybe you’ll luck out and you can enjoy a concert in the park.

If you’re looking for something a little less nature-based, why not spend the day at Kennywood Park? Here you’ll find over 30 amusement rides ranging from roller coasters to swings to kiddie rides and everything in between.

After exploring all that you can explore, refuel with some of the classic German fare that is so prevalent in Pennsylvania. There’s nothing more hearty than sitting down to some bratwurst, a pretzel, and a nice beer at the end of a long day.
