Discover Independence

Natural Beauty

Memorial Park, Glenhurst Park, and Lincoln Ridge Park are just a few of the parks to stop by with the RV rental in Independence. All of the parks administered by the town are expertly maintained to provide wide pitches of luscious, green grass perfect for recreation and sport. Each park has a playground or two, as well as pavilions for picnics or small gatherings. Memorial Park even hosts concerts, movie nights, and other events throughout the summer months. Kenton County Public Park has playgrounds and basketball courts and an 18-hole public golf course, so you can get some exercise while on vacation.

Hoosier National Forest is worthy of a visit in your Independence camper rental, although it will take you over the state line into neighboring Indiana. The forest sits upon karst deposits which make for incredible cave systems, while the wilderness areas within the park do not allow motorized vehicles, so trekking, bicycling, or horseback riding are the only way to access the backcountry.

Daniel Boone National Forest is another valid destination, as it is the largest forest in the state of Kentucky. This popular, protected naturescape attracts over a million people to the many recreation areas scattered throughout its borders. With 600 miles of trails and over a hundred recreation areas, Daniel Boone National Forest definitely encompasses the beauty of the Bluegrass State quite well.

The other can’t-miss spot for you and your Independence motorhome rental is Mammoth Caves National Park, a sprawling park containing the longest cave system on the planet, the Mammoth Cave. With more than 400 miles of surveyed passageways, this World Heritage site is important for the countless species of bats that call it home.

Around Town

Independence is wonderful in its own right, but might be considered to be lacking in attractions. However, the town is chock-full of restaurants with fine southern comfort food and BBQ and there are also a handful of exciting shops to peruse.

There are also a few wineries, breweries, and distilleries in the area. Gaines Tavern History Center is on the National Register of Historic Places and features some gorgeous architecture that takes you back to the 18th century. This old tavern was once an important stop along the old Covington & Lexington Turnpike and served as a spot for weary travelers to rest.

Saint Mary’s Cathedral of the Assumption is a spectacle to behold for both the religious and non-religious alike. The stunning basilica is masterfully built and maintained, and each stained glass window is a work of art. You can head into Cincinnati if you want to see even more big-city attractions like the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden or the Cincinnati Art Museum.

Accommodating RVs

Independence, Kentucky, is a fantastic place to rent an RV, even if there are not a whole lot of places to stay overnight in town. The surrounding area has a few options that are perfect for visitors, and the state of Kentucky as a whole is quite accommodating should you choose to drive farther and explore the Bluegrass State.

Oak Creek Campground in Walton has an in-ground pool and wireless internet in addition to many other amenities. This family-owned campground can keep children entertained with its playgrounds and outdoors areas.

A.J. Jolly Park and Campground is one of the oldest and largest county parks in Kentucky and has a large 200-acre fishing lake for swimming and boating, too. Cincinnati South Campground is a short drive south of town and has a pool coupled with a helpful convenience store and a gift shop. Boone National Forest has some exceptional camping facilities should you venture off that far south.
