The town of Hurst, TX, is the original site of a small frontier fort called Bird’s Fort. In those days (around 1840s), this was hostile Indian country. At the fort, Sam Houston, General Edward H. Tarrant, and Ed Terrell signed a treaty with several Indian tribes in the area, that brought about an uneasy truce and opened the region up to settlement. Although the area had several settlers, the town wasn’t officially formed until 1903, when a railroad built a depot in what would become Hurst.

The closest large town is Fort Worth, just under 15 miles to the southeast. Arlington, which is where Six Flags over Texas is located, is about 10 miles to the south and Dallas is about 30 miles to the east.

Discover Hurst

The Great Outdoors

When you rent an RV in Hurst, you’ll likely want to head out to the wilderness for fresh air, outdoor recreation, and fun in the sun. Although true wilderness is fast disappearing from the Dallas Metro area, a few areas still remain.

The Grapevine Lake, clocking in about 8,000 acres, is north of Hurst. It has plentiful fishing opportunities, recreational boating, camping, hiking and much more.

There is also a floating water park, located near Meadowmere Park; it’s one of the largest in Texas at 25,000 square feet. You will find slides, trampolines, and an obstacle course awaiting your arrival. The lake offers boat ramps and launches at several different spots along its coast, and most are for public use. Largemouth, smallmouth, white and spotted bass, channel, and blue catfish, and white crappie are frequently found here.

Lake Arlington, south of Highway 30, is a smaller lake but has plenty of recreational activities for the water lovers. In addition to paddling trails for kayaks, paddleboards, and canoes, it is home to Bass Classic, a popular annual tournament for anglers. Pontoon boat rentals are also available if you want to take a spin out on the water.

RV Parks

When you rent a motorhome in Hurst, you’ll need someplace to call home for a few nights. Vineyard’s Campgrounds is one of the few RV campsites to receive an “A” rating from the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds. Amenities include a boat ramp and dock, kayak rentals, an RV dump station, and a convenience/camp store.

Northlake Village RV Park in Roanoke may also fit the bill. In addition to full hookups for your RV, it provides free WiFi, laundry facilities, a swimming pool and gym, and a bathhouse with private stalls.

Exploring the City

Although the city is a small suburban town, there’s plenty of places to visit with your Hurst motorhome rental.

Take a ride back in time on the Grapevine Vintage Railroad and experience what it would’ve been like to take a train ride in a 1920s-era coach car. Throughout the year, there are special events held, including the adults-only Jazz Wine Train and the North Pole Express.

Texas loves its golf courses and Iron Horse Golf Course, designed by Dick Phelps, is a par-70 course that features a practice area and a driving range. Fossil Creek, created by The King himself, Arnold Palmer, is a spectacular par-72 course, and it also has a practice area and clinics.

Study sea life up close at the SEA LIFE Grapevine Aquarium, a 45,000-square-foot facility. Check out several species of sea life, from starfish to seahorses and sharks to jellyfish. More than 30 displays house over 5,000 sea creatures and features both exotic saltwater and native freshwater sea life. Ask how you can feed live stingrays or gain access to special behind-the-scenes tours.

Hungry for an adventure? Head over to Six Flags over Texas or Hurricane Harbor. These conveniently close popular destination parks feature rides ranging from thrilling rides to gentler options for young children. Hurricane Harbor is a water park; dress accordingly! Note: Both parks are closed in winters, and in spring and fall months, are open only on weekends. There are RV parking lots that may accommodate your RV rental, but space can be limited.

Wrap up a long day of sightseeing and adventuring by visiting one of the local wineries. Grapevine is home to the premier Urban Wine Trail in Texas, and GrapeFest, the largest wine festival in the Southwest, which is held annually in September. Try the Delaney Vineyard and Winery, which is one of the largest in North Texas. The 8,000 square foot winery is reminiscent of an 18th-century French chateau nestled in rolling hills covered by lush grapevines.

If you are seeking the warm Texas sunshine, consider a camper rental in Hurst. Enjoy the outdoors, watch a sunrise and enjoy the local cuisine. Rent an RV in Hurst, TX , and set out to see The Lone Star State!
