If you are searching for an exceptional little town to rent an RV with the prospect of exploring Oregon in mind, there is a place between Salem and Portland that fits the bill. Hubbard, Oregon is a sleepy little town south of the state’s capital, with only a few thousand residents that call it home. The town was first settled in the mid-19th century and named for Charles Hubbard, one of the original pioneers. With the arrival of the railroad in 1870, the town solidified its status as a happening town with prosperity and opportunity for all.

Since 1891, this pleasant community has been charming all that pass through it, with a laid-back atmosphere and friendly feel. You can book an RV in Hubbard and use the town as a jumping off point for your outdoor excursions or long distance road trips, or head to Portland for some city sightseeing with hardly any effort at all. If you rent an RV in Hubbard during July, you can even catch the Hubbard Hops Festival, a town-wide celebration of local culture, locally brewed beer, and mouthwatering cuisine.

Discover Hubbard

Experience the Sites and Scenery

You won’t need much help navigating the state of Oregon while on vacation, as there are seemingly endless parks and forests around every corner. Champoeg State Park is quite close to town and easy to get to with your Hubbard camper rental. The park is not a conventional state park, however, as it is just as much about the history as it is the beautiful scenery along the Willamette River. The town of Champoeg is a ghost town now, with abandoned buildings and archaeological sites that are worth checking out if you enjoy learning about the past. There is a museum to peruse, disc golf to play, trails to hike, water to fish and boat in, and RV campsites where you can stay with your Hubbard RV rental by owner. Milo McIver State Park is another fantastic place to head off to, over on the Clackamas River by the town of Estacada. The park is known for its endemic bat populations and towering yew trees, among the biggest in the Pacific Northwest. There are hiking and biking trails, special horseback riding trails, picnic areas, camping spots, and a disc golf course located in the small state park by the river.

To the south in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, you can drive to Silver Falls State Park, one of the largest and most impressive state parks in Oregon. With 9,000 acres of pristine forest and exquisite hiking trails, most are blown away at the ethereal beauty of the park. Silver Falls State Park’s claim to fame is its extraordinary waterfalls that are scattered throughout the forest. There are ten incredible cascading waterfalls to be found when you venture off into the enchanting forests of the park, like South Falls, which is over 175 feet tall.

If you feel the urge to plunge yourself deeper into the mountains and forest wilderness of Oregon, Mount Hood National Forest is less than an hour’s drive east of Hubbard. A third of the forest’s million acres are considered old growth and have remained undisturbed by human development. There are hundreds of recreation areas, several wilderness areas, miles of trekking loops, and one massive mountain for which the forest is named. The towering, majestic stratovolcano prominently looms above the surrounding landscapes and remains the centerpiece at one of the country’s most visited national forests. Camping in the forest at one of its many campgrounds is a possibility when you bring your Hubbard motorhome rental along for the ride.

Where to Park It

The state of Oregon is one of the easiest places to find camping accommodations and the area around Hubbard is no exception. You can rent an RV in the small town and stay at any number of places within driving distance. Silver Spur RV Park has a lodge, a general store, playgrounds, fishing spots, and a game room for guests to use. There are special events held every so often too.

Aurora Acres RV Resort is north of Hubbard, and minutes from downtown Aurora. There is a pool where guests can cool off during the summer months, and a few other amenities too. Additionally, there is a recreation room and laundry facilities so you can feel a little more at home.

Salem Campground & RV Park is surrounded by shopping malls, golf courses, and an assortment of other local attractions that you can walk to. There are hundreds of camping sites that accommodate all sorts of campers and tents.

City Attractions

Apart from a few wineries, vineyards, restaurants, and shops, you won’t find much to do in Hubbard. The Hubbard Hops Festival is an excellent time to visit the small community, but at any other time of year, you may want to search the local area for attractions. In Salem, you can check out the Salem Riverfront Carousel, an antique amusement park ride that has been in operation for ages. The horses were handcrafted and carved by local volunteers who took pride in presenting this lovely gift to the community.

Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum is also nearby and is full of awe-inspiring feats of engineering. Boeing planes, fighter jets, space shuttles, and more are on display while you tour the museum's massive hangars. There is even a 45-minute movie you can watch to learn about the museum.

In Oregon City, you can visit the bizarre looking Municipal Elevator, created to give locals and visitors a better view of the area. The elevator has been in operation for over 100 years and can be found on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Old Aurora Colony Museum in Aurora is an amazing piece of history that allows guests to step into the past when they view old artifacts and items from a different era. This former colony was established by people pursuing religious freedom and the old building is part of the colony's legacy.
